Cross posting here
I hope everyone is having a great summer !

It’s been a while since my last post as have been heads down on a number of projects. I’ve been working on building out some larger scale deployments using Dah, Hik, Axis cams that have been interesting. On top of this going a lot more work on Frigate. This one definitely pushes you to put the time into the config BUT to be fair the results are pretty darn good. Doing a lot of work with some of the local AI modeling aspects etc.

I’ve also been getting a TON of requests for system assistance from members here directly either over formerly Skype (RIP) and now Teams, along with direct though YT requests. Trying to fulfill as many as I can. I’m also combing back through DM’s here as well and intend to switch gears so can be more present here too.

On the cam + NVR side, I’m continuing to push for FW updates and fixes to the bugs / issues I’ve identified in my reviews, providing updated feedback on next iterations of HW that would be most valuable for targeted audience by product portfolio. Also looking at areas those here might want to see in a new video since its been a while since I dusted off the cap and hoodie ;)

Andy (@EMPIRETECANDY) and I are continuing to discuss what to test/review next although unfortunately with tariffs plus a delayed manufacturer release timeline, cams that I think would be worth testing are running about a month behind schedule. Will update here ASAP with more information and I know I’m certainly looking forward to putting some of the proposed new cams through their paces.

As always, if you have any questions just tag me or DM here, on YT or if you have it, can ping me on Teams as well. Happy to help where I can.

Does it make sense to use Frigate in case I have a Dahua NVR and smart Dahua cameras (that identify human/car)?
I deploy both and use AI NVR's. I will say that I am seeing some phenomenal results with Frigate especially in LPR, Face Recognition, local generative AI summaries etc that blow most current HW NVR's out of the water both in terms of features, capabilities and accuracy

Sounds interesting.
Many challenges, for instance power usage, the NVR/Camera is quite efficient and have special hardware that is specialized in specific tasks which makes it power efficient.
Also, if you use GPT you don't want to analyze every I-Frame, to avoid high power usage (if you run locally) or high costs (if using external API).
Maybe Andy will sell soon hardware to run Frigate (hailo chips and RPI 5).

The benefit is that you don't need to push generative AI to GPT etc, in fact I would advise against it. Run local if you need generative summaries, if you don't then thats another saving. However even things like semantic searching, recognition etc runs really well on things like OPENVINO supported chips, no need for Coral AI etc like you used to need
