What's the trick with setting different Day/Night focus in the new GUI when using Day/Night Switch? I have been struggling with the focus being off on my Z4Es and just realized that when I am adjusting for Night, it is keeping that value through Day. And when adjusting during the Day, it keeps that focus through Night. Then the cycle starts over and I am chasing focus between the two.

I set a real schedule using Customized scene and define separate day/night profiles with the time plan.

I still after many years don't trust the onboard light sensor to determine when to change

I am using the GUI Day/Night Switch on more cameras, and it seems to be working fine in most cases. These just happen to be the only varifocals I am using it on.

My issue with defining my own schedule is the dawn/dusk curve and the beginning of the month being ok, but then the tail end needing different settings. It would be nice if you could segment the month, but that would also be a lot of work to dial in.

Agree, but I quit letting 15 minutes bother me. I'll typically lean towards profile activation change a little early on both ends

My problem is mainly with the mini PTZ, but I am guessing it's mostly due to 4MP on the smaller sensor. Some months I had to add a custom profile in the mornings between the night/day switch to smooth out the transition.

Neither do I. And there's all the variables that can trip up the sensor as well.

I've taken a page from your book of also using the customized scene schedule option. I typically like to shoot for the halfway point of the month for sunrise and sunset times and switch to dark slightly early and switch to day setting slightly late so that I know there will be enough light for the focus to settle before and after the changeover.

LOL yup I do the same on a couple of cameras especially this time of year

I have found that if you use the day/night switch, you need to set the focus while the camera is actively in that mode - for example you have to set the night focus while it is night out. If you switch profile to night during the day to set the night focus, it tends to not hold.

I have tried that.

I will change day focus now, and then night focus later tonight. When I look the next day, day captures seem out of focus and the number is the night number.

I have made note of all of my varifocal focus numbers. I will try this again tonight and see what happens through tomorrow.
