A longshot. Does anybody recognize this part or what it fell off of? The red plastic head is a hair over an inch in diameter. The only markings are "on" and "off" on the head for CW and CCW rotation. It had some oil on it, so between that and how it's built, it must be an on/off valve for some hydraulic device.

I found it in a pile of tools on the floor while I was swapping a rear strut on a Subaru. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with what I was working on, yet it's very troubling to find a loose part when finishing a job!

Hoover Dam #3 Spillover release valve. Explains Lake Meads lowering level.
you're right though....being bright red...with a rubber seal and right handed threads, could be hydraulic related. Rented any equipment in the recent past?

Could it be hydraulic fluid fill cap or ride regulator valve for the strut? Just spit balling since that is what you were working on

As long as it has nothing to do with a lift or jack that was holding up the Subaru while you were UNDER it I would not be too concerned. :wtf::lol:

I have a bunch of stuff, each one in a plastic storage bag, with the date and where I found the gizmo around the house or yard. Rarely have I ever figured out what it came off and it drives me nuts every time I look at the collection of bags. :banghead:

How'd all my shit which strangely disappeared here and there make it from Alabama all the way to Texas? :idk:

might a hydraulic release for a riding lawnmower. so you can push a dead horse.

I should have followed up on this so thanks for the reminder. I immediately traveled and personally reinstalled this spillover valve on Hoover Dam, and am pleased to announce that Lake Mead is once again filling.

Coincidentally, I have another part that on the surface looks identical, still sitting on the workbench. The only thing I can think of is that a few months ago we had a team of 3 arborists cut down a difficult tree limb plus some other less thrilling work. They had a few chainsaws, a very handy grapple device, and a large industrial chipper. Perhaps they left this part as an Easter egg of sorts. How it could make it into a pile of tools in the garage a few months later is something I can't imagine.

Perhaps a sneaky member of the crew was checking out your garage when you weren't in sight? :wtf:
