lost key?

how do i find my key..

i was trying to move BI from one PC to a different one, following the steps shown by google, I created a backup on the old pc, downloaded to a new PC and when deactivated the old key, when i go to install on the new PC it asks for key, however, i no longer have the key on the old machine.

I did try to import the backup, it imported all my settings but not the key. I emailed support 4 days ago and crickets. i have the email that shows i bought it, but no email with the key

The key would have been emailed to you.
You should always print out the key on a label, and attach it to the Blue Iris PC.
That said, be certain you emailed support the proper way as outlined in the Blue Iris help. Otherwise they may never see it.

You can install this on the old machine >>>>>blueirisupdate helper and it will show you your key on the old machine, as long as you haven't wiped it yet.

that is the strange part, i have an email that shows i paid for it, but i do not have any emails with a key, i have looked in all my folders and trash. i am not sure it ever emailed me one

Blue Iris Update Helper on the new machine should also work if you restore the registry file but don't run Blue Iris yet.

i already ran blue iris on the new computer, that is how i found it did not transfer the key during the backup

You can just stop Blue Iris and restore the registry backup again and retrieve the key before you run Blue Iris again.

i saved the backup reg entry to the new pc, when i try to load it in regedit, it tells me it is not a valid windows registry file

Ah, you must have used Blue Iris to export the registry data, and it does some weird badly compressed format where you have to use Blue Iris to import it, and it might be stripping the registration info out when you do.

finally i was able to fix it!

i ended up having to download a registry viewer and view the file that way and copy/paste
