Pixel update killed alerts!

Getting the hang of it

Good morning.

I'm hoping that I can find the issue with my Pixel 9 Pro XL phone.

I had BI and the BI android app all set up and running without issue, until the phone did a required update. It updated to Android version 16.

Since the the update I can still receive alerts, but only when the phone screen is active. If the screen is dark, or if the BI android app isn't on top, then there is no alert.

I'm running BI Version 5.9.8.5. I updated to BI 5.9.9.59 and no change. I reverted back to 5.9.8.5.

So, I'm certain that the issue is with the phone, as it received the alerts with the proper audio when the BI app is active.

I've gone into the BI android app App info/All Blue Iris notifications is set to On

As and aside, the Pushover alerts come through without issue. The Pushover alerts have the proper audio. Screen on or off, no problem. But Pushover is too slow.

I've deleted the BI Android app off of my phone and reinstall several times.

I've deleted my phone from the BI Mobile Device and then reconnected. Several times.

I've tried with the firewall on and off.

I've double checked that BI is allowed outbound and inbound in the Firewall rules.

I've searched this website, and others to try and find the answer.

I've spent WAY too many hours hammering on this problem, and I'm out of answers.

Why is BI going to sleep when it's not on screen?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have had BI alerts stop responding on my Pixel 8 phone also. I think it happened even before Android 16. I have an older Android phone (WiFi only) with Android 14 loaded for home use, and it still responds to alerts. I have pinged Ken a few times about the problem, without luck. He uses apple devices, so evidently he contracts out Android app updates, which has not happened in a long time. Maybe the more people that ping him, he will have someone look into it. Like everything else in the world, instead of things getting better, they get worse. Shoot him an email. I am using Pushover for alerts now.

Also, for the good of the community. I downloaded and tried the latest BI update. 5.9.9.65.

No joy as far as fixing this issue.

Went back to 5.9.8.5.

Thanks.

While I have the BI app on my (Android 16) Pixel phone, I have never bothered with getting notifications through it, as Pushover is plenty fast for me (2-3 second delay perhaps?) and UI3 is superior to the native app anyway. That being said, have any of you double checked that the BI app is permitted "Background usage" permissions, as well as testing with "Unrestricted" battery usage rather than the typical "Optimized" setting? Just suggestions on items to test/check, no idea if it will fix this.

I have zero experience with Pixel devices, but here are some things to try...

Open Settings on the device and search for 'Sleeping' and 'Deep sleeping' apps.
Make sure Blue Iris is not in the lists.

Open Settings on the device and search for 'Background usage limits'.
If 'Put unused apps to sleep' is enabled, try disabling it.

Open Settings on the device and search for 'Adaptive battery'.
If it is enabled, try disabling it.

Check the Notification Categories for the Blue Iris app. Make sure they are all enabled.

Yea, thanks for the suggestions, I am well versed in all the settings to get the notifications. None of them work now. Does Anyone have BI alerts working on Android 16?

Thank you Jaydeel. All of your suggestions have already been tried. No Luck so far.....

I went into the developer area today, but I didn't see any settings that looked like they would fix this issue.
