F*ck storage I want the best video quality

All the optimiation threads and posts seem to be about reducing cpu usage for the least sacrafise in quality, which i get. But i don't really care, I've had 4, now 6, and soon to be 8 (stopping there) cameras ran by a i5-10400 recording to a 14tb hard drive for about 2-3 years now. I get like a...

close range and brush/obstacles... IR illumination or LED and color night vision ir just color?

Yellow one is the light I want to put in. Tree line with thick brush is like 15ft away. The big vblack radius/dots to the left is the tree line around tree line backyard. Right now I have issues with my cameras seeing into it at al with the obnoxious street light in my backyard. But when winter...

close range and brush/obstacles... IR illumination or LED and color night vision ir just color?

So when placing a camera 45 degrees off the side of a building with a close (<25ft) treeline that has very heavy underbrush is it better to have color or b&w at night. Really considering giving one of the 5mp amcrest color night visions a try. Also regarding the 180 degree cameras... can you...

Powering IR illuminators with POE... without the data?

ignore the cameras, I'd have the same setup for 4 illuminators going around the perimeter only i would not need a switch, or managed switch for that matter. I'd simply use the ethernet cable to carry the power but dont know a cheap way to convert 48v active to 802.3af (now that I think about it...

Powering IR illuminators with POE... without the data?

So I have a treeline in a radius around my backyard that is 70-100feet from the house before light brush starts (10 yards of that) and then maybe 10-20 yards of light woods to the main road. There is a bright streetlamp in my backyard and no matter what I do my cams pic up the yard perfectly...

Powering illuminator off of POE camera?

Do any of those splitters actually provide POE out in additiion to 12v out? The few I looked into that were near identical the Q&A section said that they simply isolate the 12v from ethernet rather than provide 12v out and POE out.

Powering illuminator off of POE camera?

Is there a way to piggy back off an ipcamera's (loryta/ipc 5542tm) POE power to power a 12v IR illuminator? Seems like most splitters take POE IN and then 12v dc out and non-poe ethernet out. If not how is everyone powering them? All I can come up with is an 12v power supply and a lot of...

    x16 5MP Cams - i7-4790 Good Enough

I cant speak for whether it will be sufficient but if you decide you want more power building might not be a bad option. I was looking at the optiplexes and elitedesks recommended here and at ~$200 for the 4790/i5-6500 they are a good deal but if you are wanting to step up to a 6700 or 8500 you...

How bad of an idea is exposed exterior ethernet?

How fast are we talking when exposed? There would be an exposed segment on each side where the wire will come out of the siding and travel ~10ft up to the roof (one side being south facing). I'm kind of leaning towards just buying a 250ft segment of direct burial from someone other than...

How bad of an idea is exposed exterior ethernet?

I'm renting currently and am looking to setup a few exterior security cameras. The plan is a unifi flex switch mounted on each side of the house with 2 cameras on each switch. Basically one on each corner. I only expect to be here 1-3 years so it does not need to hold up to the elements long...
