Running BI as service, does it run after restart without log in?

Indeed it will! This is how I run my system.

    Should I Upgrade?

That is odd. I run Win10 Pro 64 bit on an i7-4770 with onboard graphics. Latest updates and no issues. While this is a newer machine, my previous Win10 Pro 64 build had no issue either with BI 5.....and I installed the day after it was released. As for remote connections on the LAN, I am not a...

Poll: 568-B Wiring vs 568-A Wiring vs Crossover, what do you prefer?

I use B at home. At work, I use what ever is currently in place or what is dictated (federally funded jobs require A). The need for a crossover cable is getting more and more rare everyday due to auto negotiating NICs. There are some cases where I still need one (using an old Dell 500 series...

Need an indoor wifi Camera to work with Blue Iris

I won't go down the path of using WiFi for cameras, but I've been there and used them in cases like yours (before I started running cable everywhere). I used wireless cams from both DLink and Samsung. Both integrated into BI just fine once I figured out how to access the stream. Both can be...

Trying to get my head around BI hardware setup

For HDMI cables and remote monitors, I am currently running a pretty cool active HDMI over Ethernet adapter to send A/V to the other side of a room from a Blu Ray player. Comes with an IR blaster that I don't use. At this point, I would recommend this setup for remote view client PCs.....or...

Forgot the io address I changed my cameras to - how to find?

You can run Wireshark on that network and see the traffic from any/all IPs on it. A port sniffer program will allow you to obtain a list of every IP and their open ports on a given network. Of course, you can always log into your router and look at the table as well. Looking in BI might...

Trying to get my head around BI hardware setup

True, my usage of "real router" is rather questionable. I was referring to something better than a standard off the shelf WiFi router. I should have worded that better. Nothing wrong with those units for basic uses. But for me and my home network, stepping into a "more" Enterprise class router...

Trying to get my head around BI hardware setup

I worded that incorrectly when I said "real". What I was referring to would be more of an Enterprise level router rather than some of the shelf unit that you can buy at Walmart. Will that Walmart unit work? Sure. But will it provide the ability to VLAN and get deeper into the weeds if needed...

Trying to get my head around BI hardware setup

You could get away with one switch......but you are just waiting for an issue when it fails. Since you are building from scratch, here is my suggestion. 1 - do it right with a proper rack and patch panels. 2 - each floor/area gets its own patch panel and switch. 3 - cameras on their own patch...

    Windows or Android Tablet?

You know.....thinking about it, there are 3 inexpensive Windows tablets floating around here that my kids don't use. A few years old, but should be able to handle UI3 fine. If I can find the chargers I'll let you know what I figure out.

Six Strand Pre-Terminated Single-Mode LC Fiber Optic Cable Installation Question on Wall Plate

No problem and you're welcome! I am going to suggest that you double up on your drops. You might think right now that you only need 2 CAT6 in a given location....until you move in and find yourself needing more and then adding a switch. Think about wherever you might want a desk.....and put in...

    Plug for cable gland?

Or some flex conduit of Seal Tite. Flex would be inexpensive......Seal Tite will cost more because of the cost of the fittings. I think both of these options would look nicer in the end and give better mounting options. Straight pipe might look strange depending upon location.

Six Strand Pre-Terminated Single-Mode LC Fiber Optic Cable Installation Question on Wall Plate

Good call on not splitting the jacket. I would get another cable to run to the headed (or jump into the North wall location) and patch from there. A bit more money, but it will accomplish what you want. I'd love to have put fiber in my house (separate head ends on each floor) but it would be...

    Plug for cable gland?

Agreed......some silicon caulk or RTV would be my solution as well. Put it in as layers and it will have a clean and professional appearance. Plus it's easily removable if needed. Edit - or you could buy a different one with a smaller throat which would seal up the cable better.

    Windows or Android Tablet?

I have not run a Windows tablet. However, I use Windows 10 stick PCs on several tvs around the house for live viewing via UI3. Two TVs also have Firesticks doing the same thing. I am considering adding some Android tablets on wall/table top mounts in the kitchen and laundry room for additional...
