That's a great idea. I didn't realize the cameras would work with just an sd card in them. Would I plug the camera into my laptop with a cat 5 cable, configure the camera, then disconnect and just power with a poe?

Ok. So you are saying that POE is 48 volts DC through the line. Correct? Then you are saying it gets regulated down to 12 volts DC. Where is it dropped to 12vdc? Inside the camera? Does this mean I need to feed 48 volts DC to the camera or 12 volts DC.

Nothing is wrong with POE but most swtches I am looking at only have POE on half of the ports. Also, are you saying the cameras run on 12v AC? 12v DC? or 24v AC? You weren't clear

Has anybody done a non POE setup? What is required to power the camera? Volts? Connector type? etc.

I'm not worried about right now. I'm worried when I start adding more and more cameras I don't want to buy 5mp and have to deal with all the data when I add more cameras if I don't need that high resolution.

Please elaborate. With what camera? and what's no longer an issue. Is that with ir lighting on the camera or just what is coming from the car?
