I need a 12 volt NVR or DVR

That's a great idea. I didn't realize the cameras would work with just an sd card in them. Would I plug the camera into my laptop with a cat 5 cable, configure the camera, then disconnect and just power with a poe?

I need a 12 volt NVR or DVR

I'm concerned about the schock from hitting bumps. This thing only goes about 5 miles an hour but it does not have a suspension. Link did not work.

    Non POE set up

Ok. So you are saying that POE is 48 volts DC through the line. Correct? Then you are saying it gets regulated down to 12 volts DC. Where is it dropped to 12vdc? Inside the camera? Does this mean I need to feed 48 volts DC to the camera or 12 volts DC.

    Non POE set up

Nothing is wrong with POE but most swtches I am looking at only have POE on half of the ports. Also, are you saying the cameras run on 12v AC? 12v DC? or 24v AC? You weren't clear

    Camera resolution

I'm not worried about right now. I'm worried when I start adding more and more cameras I don't want to buy 5mp and have to deal with all the data when I add more cameras if I don't need that high resolution.

    Camera resolution

So in this example: 5MP/3MP/1080P @30 fps Means there are three streams coming from the camera a 5mp, 3 mp, and a 1080? I can choose any of them? The 30fps is the max and I can set that in the camera to anything 30 or less? Is this true for all Lonsge cameras as far as what they list the...

    Camera resolution

I got my computer and I'm getting ready to order cameras. I'm going to start with a few Longse. They are cheap and seem to get good reviews on here. I have a question about resolution. When they say Main Stream: 5MP/3MP/1080P@30fps, 5MP does that mean that is the only options I have for...

    Pixels per foot.

Please elaborate. With what camera? and what's no longer an issue. Is that with ir lighting on the camera or just what is coming from the car?

    Pixels per foot.

How are you able to read a plate at night? I thought the reflective coating on the plate messed up the image.

    Pixels per foot.

I'm trying to determine how high of a resolution camera I need. I've been reading about sizing cameras by pixels per foot of the image being recorded. I have read that 40 pixels per foot is sufficient for facial recognition. However, I have also read that 50 is required. What do you guys...

    Variable focal vs zoom

I'm with you Kawboy12R. I don't mind it being a pain once since that's the only time I'm going to mess with it.

    Poe

    What is a POE inserter?
  22. F

    Poe

Where would be a good place to buy them? Also, is there a rule of thumb for how many watts per camera you need? Also, how long of a run before you need more watts?

    Poe

I'm looking at purchasing a switch for a PC/Blue Iris system I am putting together. It seems that eight port switched only have 4 that are POE. My question is how do you power cameras? Should I POE all that I can or is it better to run a power cable to them?

    Variable focal vs zoom

Okay but they are the same thing. Just different in how they are operated. Correct?

I'm installing my first camera system. I will be running blue iris. I want to purchase some inexpensive cameras to get started or perhaps they will be good enough to use permanently. I do like the prices here. I have some questions regarding the specification. Would someone identify these...

    Blue Iris outputs

Does blue Iris have any outputs that it can trigger? Example. It senses motion on a camera and turns on recording or a notification. Can it also send a signal out to trip a relay that would turn on external IR lights?

    Camera location

I don't want it pointed at the street because any car driving by would set off the recording. Also, my driveway is pull in back out so pointed towards the road wouldn't get the plate. Or it would get it if they turned one direction but not the other unless I use two cameras there. As for...

    Camera location

I shouldn't have said down. I should have said across. Here's an example. Most people place a camera on the eve of their house. They have the angle set to film that whole side of the house. Here's my problem. My eves aren't 8 feet high. They are higher. So when the camera catches...
