Noob with retail shops - which cams??

Our losses are pretty minimal compared to that cost, so it would take a long time to pay back. Definitely not worth paying someone to monitor a camera. It’s more of the principle, for me, though. I hate to have my product stolen. We were burglarized at night not too long ago, so I’m beefing...

$900 to $5000+ And yeah, I have to think about all of this a lot. People absolutely love our shops, especially our customer service, so I definitely don’t want to sour their experience because of a few shoplifters. It’s a fine line.

I’m guessing that was Avail. I know it annoys people, which is why I wanted to make it as transparent as possible. If I end up going with an ID scanner, I will go with one that is as quick as possible. They sure are expensive, though!

I will do some more research, but I wouldn’t actually be storing the data in a database anywhere (as is the case with the ID scanners). The hackers would have to go through all of the recorded footage and find each ID card and record the information themselves. Seems a bit unlikely.

I guess it’s worth getting and trying the 12-32mm varifocal to see if it works. I don’t think I would be doing anything illegal, since ID scanners record all of this information as well.

Not a requirement, but we have quite a few shoplifters and it would be nice to have some way to identify them after they steal our product. It’s pretty frustrating to only have a face and no identifying information to give to the police.

Thank you very much for this. I really appreciate the help and information. Disappointing, but it is what it is. I guess I either need to put a camera under the countertop with a plexiglass cutout or just chalk up the money for an ID scanner.

Noob with retail shops - which cams??

I’m hoping so, because I’m not having much luck here (even at 75”), so I’m going to try a 8MP cam next.

I took a tape measure and measured the exact distance. It’s 75 inches. I’ve been doing tests at longer distances of around ten feet, since I thought it would be doable, but I’m quickly finding that’s not the case.

This is from 6-10 ft away, not 15 ft. It will be mounted directly above where the license will be.

Okay, so what do I need to do in order to read an ID card from 6-10 feet away? Get a camera with a higher zoom? Get a 4K camera? Something else?

Gotcha. I’m talking about an ID card. Quite a bit smaller and with very tiny text.

    How big/small is this plat?

Wittaj, did you happen to test to see if you can read the license at 15 ft? I just setup my 5442 today and am having very little luck at 10 ft, even fully zoomed in. I haven’t messed with settings much yet, though, so hopefully I will make some progress here. Otherwise, I guess I just have to...

Noob with retail shops - which cams??

No problem! I have purchased a IPC-T5442T-ZE, so I will see how that works out. I'm sure it will be fine with a bit of tweaking. I have been looking into people/customer counters and came across this one in particular, which appears to be one of the more affordable solutions. Do any of you...
