    Motion sensor

Isn't it a better option if you have the cameras record consistently? I'm mean motion-following/activated cameras hardly serve any extra purpose except for maybe saving you some storage space. Even if you find one, it will be way beyond expensive. It is better to put money in IP cameras and NVRs...

yet another request for suggestions - hikevision or ..?

Hikvision offers the most features for their costs. Your vendor/installer can be of help to make a good decision with the choice of camera model but I'll suggest you to stick with Hikvision cameras (and NVR/DVR).

    Camera Selection

Turret cameras are find for placing outside. You have to make sure that the IR lights don't cause much problem. You can try camera systems and NVRs from Honeywell as well. Both the price and quality is on par with Hikvision.

Have the Cameras. How Do You Run Yours?

We haven't installed any sort of additional lighting for outdoor recording. The surveillance cameras alone do a very good job. They are on at all times 'cause you can't really miss anything. I have to add that it does add to the overall cost but it is worth it. It does keep you safe, you know...

    Security Camera System

Totally agree with you. You don't have to compromise on quality. Resolution barely has any effect on your bandwidth so you must go for Full HD. Opt for a camera that supports POE, and wired cameras are more suitable for security systems. You can find good IP cameras from Honeywell and...

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Thanks for the information. I haven't been around a good internet connection for the past few weeks and hence the late reply. In this while, I've managed to convince my dad for Z-wave and Schlage for the door locks. He was actually quite adamant on Kwikset's smartcode touch-based locks and on...

    Are Axis camera's worth it?

Thanks for the tip. Axis' security cameras were already installed by the time of this post and I'm pretty sure Internet Security Systems (our vendor/installer) did the patch themselves. I haven't had any problems so far. Yes, if it wasn't for the vendor, I would have gone for Honeywell again...

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Thank you for the suggestions. The house isn't very old, and we had a renovation done about two years ago. And our existing system consists of network surveillance cameras. We haven't started with automation yet. My dad is pondering over zigbee instead of z-wave(as if he would do any work), so...

    Are Axis camera's worth it?

I'd like to thank everyone for the responses in this discussion. I really enjoyed the detailed answers and replying to them. Now if everyone assumes that cheap things will fail like you pointed out, where will the local/emerging businesses go? Take the example of the local company that did our...

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Hey this is my second post here. My dad has gone berserk with upgrading/adding to our home security and automation setup. Last month he got our cameras upgraded and now is looking for some good brands for automation. The research work has been assigned to me and so far I've covered Cisco...

    Are Axis camera's worth it?

Thank you for your response! I asked my father, and learnt that the Axis cameras were installed as a promotional offer(discount) from a local company who were retail partners with Axis. I live in New York, and our setup is 1080p. And I do believe that IP cameras are better than analog for the...

    Are Axis camera's worth it?

Hi, my father recently had a new security setup installed in our home. Our previous setup was from Honeywell and he was quite content on using an improved version from this brand, but the company we hired for the job suggested (and almost forced) us to go for Axis. Of course, the quality is...

Do HD analog cameras suffice, or should I go ip?

At $800, you can definitely get a good IP cam setup. While HD analog cameras are decent, IP are turning into quite the standard for security setup. And when you're investing that much money, you'll definitely won't want to miss out on the additional functionalities that come with IP cameras...

Home Video Surveillance - Security + Baby Monitoring. Wifi + Wired. Help.

According to your needs, full HD cameras will be good (720p isn't enough). And network cameras will be excellent. As for you budget, you can find some good options from local retailers online. Most of them do keep a wide variety of cameras from all major manufacturers, and can also assist...
