    Camera reliability?

As you discovered, power grid problems may take out the PoE switch, but will not affect the camera itself. These cameras are failing for internal reasons, not external ones. I'm still researching for appropriate replacements; for the time being I'm using the old Foscam cameras.

    Camera reliability?

You're welcome to start another thread on how to troubleshoot and fix cameras. As I said previously, this is not what this thread is about.

    Camera reliability?

It's irrelevant info; you cannot prevent it, fix it, or repair it; since there is no warranty on these cameras, you just need to buy a new one.

    Camera reliability?

I know what's wrong, I've seen these kind of failures countless times, they're the most common in high tech electronics. I did not start this thread to ask for troubleshooting assistance, I wanted to find out whether other people have seen the same failure rate that I saw. BTW, I did open the...

    Camera reliability?

So you're saying that the Firmware gradually became more and more corrupt over a period of a few months, until it was so corrupt that it stopped responding? Right.

    Camera reliability?

I stated it very clearly on the very first page, Post # 12. I can't follow your logic here; you're saying that a power surge reset the camera to the default IP address, then 40 seconds later another surge re-set it to the original IP address -- and that cycle kept occurring for months? And...

    Camera reliability?

So your hypothesis is that the ethernet connector got corroded through moisture ingress and... then what? What is the exact failure mechanism? Reminder here, the cameras are still powered up and they are recording data, you just cannot communicate with them anymore despite all interventions: new...

    Camera reliability?

Of course I'm not comparing apples to apples; what I'm saying is that the odds were massively stacked against the Foscams: they were indoor cameras installed outside with the SD slot and power connector fully exposed to the elements. You may not think very highly of the ethernet seal housing...

    Camera reliability?

The Foscams are Wi-Fi. So you are saying that during the period 2011-2019, the power/environmental conditions at my place were somehow favourable and the Foscams that were directly plugged into outlets survived, yet during the 2019-2023 period with the Dahuas powered by PoE (hence once removed...

    Camera reliability?

Just as a reference point: the first security cameras I installed back in 2011 were some cheap Foscam ones; they were indoor-only cameras, but I went ahead and installed them under the eaves in the exact same positions where the Dahua are now. Over the course of 8 years, the optics of 3 out of...

    Camera reliability?

One of the first things I tried, nope, didn't work.

    Camera reliability?

There are too many configuration settings to start listing all of them; is there a specific one that you believe adversely affects reliability?

    Camera reliability?

Lightning strikes may be a problem in South Dakota, but they are a non-issue in the SF Bay Area. You also missed the point where I said that the failures are not catastrophic but gradual, occurring over a period of a few months.

    Camera reliability?

So you've done the root cause analysis and determined that it is indeed the design and not, e.g. a malfunctioning sensor, or a flaky sub-component, or... a dozen other things?

    Camera reliability?

That's right, we do pay: they offer their products at 65% of the retail price and give us 3x the warranty. Maybe Apple just likes us? The way I know the reliability of our products at 3x the warranty period. Because we have run reliability tests, because we get daily reliability data from the...
