    Need help troubleshooting Dahua

You're probably right. I was just trying to follow best practice guidelines. The splice is indoors thankfully. At least I have the option of bypassing my patch panel if I think that's really necessary. Of course I'm miffed that the guys left so little free cable when they pulled it. Basic no no.

    Need help troubleshooting Dahua

That's what I'm using currently as the splice. Had to try a couple before finding one that seemed to keep the signal decent.

    Need help troubleshooting Dahua

Thanks, I'll take the cam down and hard reset it and then see if I can get it configured before reinstalling. I'm using chrome as a browser but was trying to do the initial setup via the Dahua cong tool I downloaded, since the subnet the switch is on is different from the camera defaults. In...

    Need help troubleshooting Dahua

I purchased 5 of the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE from empiretcandy. This are connected to an 8 port POE switch along with my BlurIris computer. Router is pfsense, and this switch is on its own physical NIC, separate subnet from my main house network, and only the BI computer IP has privileges to see outside...

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

I do have the pfsense hardware already and just got it installed and running today. I also buttoned up the BI box last night and got BI installed. Now to start the learning process.

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

I'm still learning so... But OpenVPN takes a bit of compute power if you want to maintain a high bandwidth. One advantage of using pfsense is that you can adjust hardware to get the througput you desire. In my case, I went with an integrated SOC celeron based box with 8 gigabet NICs and a fiber...

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

I definitely have a lot of reading and learning to do. But I am curious about something you said. I understand that I can accomplish what I want to do either by using a VLAN capable switch, or by making use of the multiple physical NICs in my pfsense box. Are there any significant advantages to...

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

That makes sense, thanks. Looks like it's time to button up the BI machine and get to learning pfsense. Our house won't be finished for a couple of months yet but I'll probably buy one camera now to start testing and learning.

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

Thanks, that helps. I wonder if the BI machine being on the same firewalled switch/LAN as the cameras would cause any other issues? I guess if connected externally via openVPN I'd still have access to the BI machine even if all network traffic were blocked on that pfsense interface? Same for say...

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

No prior experience with pfsense, VLAN's or BI for that matter. I'm plenty tech handy in general but networking is by no means a strong suit for me. So learning curves everywhere I turn. The Ruckus WAPs I'll be using are VLAN capable... but won't be utilizing them for BI/cameras. I've...

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

Any thoughts? Even a pointer to a thread discussing this I may have missed would help!

pfsense and BI - multi LAN or multi NIC?

I've been searching and reading through threads here for a few days but haven't yet stumbled onto a clear answer. Maybe there isn't one. New home construction and while it is being finished I'm putting together some of the key pieces I'll need for electronics side of things. BI for security -...

    Rack mount BI server reccomendations

I have 24TB or so of capacity currently in an unRaid server and can easily expand that. Any known issues using unRaid for long term storage? I see talks of other NAS solutions here so I hope not. Wasn't planning on trying to accommodate local HDD for video storage. I guess I could if needed.

    Rack mount BI server reccomendations

Ah, forgot about the proprietary dell formats. Haven't had an optiplex since an old P4 work hog. I wouldn't be opposed to drilling and tapping standoffs at appropriate locations in a roomy case but don't remember if rear IO is nonstandard as well. Not that that would be a big deal though I...
