The Swann unit I purchased from Sam's linked above includes cameras with audio capability. It is a little tricky to set up, but I am now getting sound on all four channels. This NVR does not require power for the external speaker.

Thanks for the tip on the power brink - I will keep it in mind. Currently, I am not using the PoE functionality on the NVR, but I probably will in the future as I expand the system. The NVR does have a fan which is not really that quiet, but it is in the basement where it cannot be heard anyway...

I have Norton 360 running on my PC, and it warns me NOT to install SwannView Link for Windows v2.1.2.10 because of a security threat called WS.Reputation.1. Does anyone else see a similar warning for this application? Simplex

I connected four cameras to the PoE switch, and then connected the switch to one of the eight camera ports on the NVR. I am able to view all four cameras with no problems. I can also see the cameras with the PoE switch connected to my router, not the NVR. So, installation will commence. Simplex

Yes, this is another option (Option 3). I do have a closet with a shelf up high that could work, but I will need to run power which is not that easy. I might try this set up for a while running extensions to see how it works out before fishing romex.
