Any good high res cam deals?

I know they are worthless for security. But I'm wondering about picking up a couple of cheap daytime only camera so I can keep a better eye on my grandfather (88yo) when he's out tinkering in the yard. I have a nice Dahua (IPC-T5442T-ZE) front and plan to add 4 or 5 more similar for security...

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Yes. I plugged it in to network switch and set my pc IP address and bingo! That’s all I had to do after all the pain I put myself through… just plug in to the switch instead of my pc or router POE port  I don’t know why I didn’t know that.

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Well, I tried everything concievable. Everything under the sun, over it, behind it... except that. I guess I should have thought of that, but I had no idea from anything I read that I wasn't supposed to connect directly to my PC to configure it. It's not in the manual that I could see. I guess...

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Tried this and get nothing. Not a peep. I do not see any branding on the cameras themselved except a label attached to the cable. The boxes are marked with labels on the side and on the top.

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Is Andy the seller at EmpireTech? Does he frequent these forums? I know I read a lot of good things about EmpireTech when I was researching camera choice but didn’t make the link. I was wondering about how to contact the seller directly for advice rather than rushing ahead with another Amazon...

    Dahua duds or User dud?

I’ll try the 2 minute reset shortly: I momentarily stepped away. But they were ordered from Amazon. Ordered one, then online request for exchange. Both of them still here as I haven’t got around to return them yet. Got 1st last Thursday and the replacement yesterday. Both boxes had crushed...

    Dahua duds or User dud?

I appreciate that and am immensely grateful for all the suggestions. I've learned a few things in the process. I'm now trying to calculate the odds of getting a third dud in a row and wondering what the vendor will think of the two back-to-back returns.

    Feels that way.

    Dahua duds or User dud?

No argument. That's why my first reaction is: what am I doing wrong? Then again, if anyone is going to have such perfect (bad) luck, it would definitely be me. I had tried a few variations on reset. And just tried again with your instructions, but still no change. Still not even an indication...

I also just tested the belker PS and get ~12.4V DC, correct polarity on my multimeter.

I can power my MikroTik Audience AP with either the POE port on my router or the TP-Link Injector, so that seems ok. That's the only other POE device I have at the moment. I have used these ethernet cables before, but I tested on my Klein VDV526-100 Lan Explorer tester and they pass.

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Yes. Center positive, Outer negative. There is an adapter to reverse it, but it is normally Center positive.

Thanks. I've tried powering via: Belker 45W Universal (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015H0UPWU) TP-LINK TL-PoE160S 802.3at/af Gigabit PoE Injector (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LZZRX5N) MikroTik hEX S RB760iGS Router (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F7HDRKX) All without success.

    Dahua duds or User dud?

Yes. Downloaded, installed, set the search range, and searched, but found nothing. It momentarily flashes amber and then goes out. When directly connected to PC, Windows shows cable unplugged. No sounds nor lights that I could find. Check I tried a few addresses in that range and set the...

    Dahua duds or User dud?

After lurking for a bit, I picked up what seemed the most highly rated first camera: EmpireTech IPC-T5442T-ZE through Amazon. Couldn't get it to work. Ordered a replacement and can't get it to work. Now, I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I've tried powering it through a POE port on my...
