Question about ISP changing my IP address

Thanks for the advice, my router has guest wifi. Am I right in assuming that putting the IOT devices on the guest wifi protects the rest of my system, like my computer, rather than protecting the IOT's? Where is this leading if IOT's are such a security problem? There are more and more IOT's...

Question about ISP changing my IP address

So why did it work when I did the same test with the remote wifi AC wall outlet switch. It is a Orvibo switch and I used the "Homemate" app, not the Lorex app. Tony

Question about ISP changing my IP address

I didn't mention that I am using a ZTE-MF-279T Rocket hub for cellular internet access to my cameras so I decided to do an actual test to answer my own question. I tested what happens when the Rocket hub external IP address changes i.e. do I lose contact with my IP cameras? I forced the IP...

Question about ISP changing my IP address

Sorry if this is a basic question but I am still a beginner in things internet/IP related. I got my first Lorex IP camera (LNW16XF) with SD card storage working with access from my phone anywhere and was about to buy several more cameras for a security system at our cottage. Then I read that my...

Options for IP camera with SD card and no NVR?

I am trying to decide on a IP camera choice for my off-grid solar powered system. The internet access is limited (ie expensive) and the solar power is DC only - no inverter. My requirements are 1) IP with direct remote access to an app on my phone. 2) SD card data storage on each camera 2) No...

Need help with remote wifi access.

This solved my problem. I loaded the ExpressVPN app onto my Android phone and I can now access the camera by public wifi in those places that wouldn't work before. I didn't put it on my home router which I assume is what you were suggesting. I tried two other VPNs including NordVPN and they...

Need help with remote wifi access.

I think I know the answer which is probably obvious to tech savvy types. I omitted to say that the locations whose wifi wouldn't connect with my camera were Tim Hortons and McDonalds in Canada and these locations are well known for blocking certain network ports. e.g. VOIP is blocked. When I...

Need help with remote wifi access.

I have been considering a VPN for other reasons but can anyone explain how I would use a VPN to solve my particular camera problem? To recap - I can access the camera via my cell phone data plan but not from a remote wifi. Thanks Tony

Need help with remote wifi access.

Yes, I scanned the code. What difference does that make?

Need help with remote wifi access.

I am new to all this and seem to have a mental block understanding network and remote connection issues. I have a Lorex LNW16XF wifi camera that works perfectly on my home wifi network and I can access the camera remotely via the Lorex Home app on my Android phone when using my cell phone data...

Minimizing NVR/camera power for a solar system

That's very useful info. I actually found the spec of your NVR and it says the power consumption is less than or equal to 15W plus the HDD which seems to fit. This is less than I thought Thanks Tony

Minimizing NVR/camera power for a solar system

I like the idea of a managed switch. Although it is a security system with four cameras, there is only really one that is important for security. If I run into power problems I don't mind shutting cameras down to let the solar batteries catch up. It's a bit of a hobby project. Thanks Tony

Minimizing NVR/camera power for a solar system

I am considering my first security system for our off-grid cabin so will have to use solar power. I have discovered that camera systems can consume a lot of watts mainly because you need to design for 24 hr operation. I would like to use an NVR but since I have never even seen one I have a...
