I believe it depends on the firmware that is loaded in the cam. Mine is PAL only as well, but I'm in the UK, so that is correct for me.

Just to add my experience, I was rainbow free (using direct to disk and hardware acceleration) until I ticked the box in Camera Properties | Video marked 'Also BVR'. I got rainbows (on playback only) until I unticked the box. All good again now.
