So I’ve spent the last few days monitoring various outlets for prices for the following models:

I5-3570
I5-4570
I5-4590
I5-6500

From what I can tell in research (yes I have read the blue iris hardware wiki) there are only 2 reasons why you’d choose Skylake over the others - h265 native acceleration which may be useful in the future and some minor energy consumption. In terms of performance they seem to be very much in the same bracket. Given the Skylake prices are literally double (talking here about used / refurbished desktops) are there any other reasons why you’d buy a Skylake ? The double cost doesn’t seem justified but thought I’d check first incase I’ve missed something somewhere.

FWIW, this is for a new setup which initially is only 2 cameras, and the absolute max I could ever imagine would be 6. I have bought 2 dahuas (the 2mp varifocals, can’t remember the model number off the top of my head). Blue iris.

The I5-3570 is more than sufficient, isn’t it ?

the i56500 will also be much newer and less used. Its not double. I have purchased 2x i5-6500 for under 180 recently. You just need to wait for the ebay deal to pop up.

Thanks for the reply. Currently I haven’t found an I5-6500 for less than £200 and that’s with low memory. £250 brings about a better spec.

There are a far few I5-3570 @ £100 and I5-4590 @ £130. Maybe it’s different in the UK?

Decided in the end to take the plunge and spend a bit more on a i5-6500. Managed to get one for £195 which included a 500GB Western Digital blue. At least it's a bit more future proof and 3.5 years newer.
