Got this cam Amazon.com

First, the CMOS is quite old. Anyone know of an upgrade? Second, I've had varying results with this but never found a solution for 24 hours. Just looking to get license plates on this cam. It's on a dirt road and people cannot drive quickly.

Hi I think a lot of members are using that one or a similar one.

LPR night time will require some playing around to get the best captures of plates .. look at the various threads on this topic as the members have given some great advice.

Yep that is a very capable camera. Starts with the shutter speed - 1/1000 min or 1/2000.

Post example video and screenshots of your settings.

I was able to find the CMOS upgrade. I took the camera model from the old CMOS program, Googled it, found the website, pasted and searched, and then found and downloaded/installed it via browser.

After upgrading, I'm getting this when I look at the camera via browser:

  • Version
Device TypeIPC-B5442E-Z4E
System VersionV2.840.15OG008.0.R, Build Date: 2022-02-18
WEB VersionV3.2.1.1140936
ONVIF Version20.12(V3.1.0.1064635)
S/N8C036A8PAGE0330
Algorithm Version1.0.8Algorithm version does not match, please upgrade firmware.bin
Security Baseline VersionV2.1

However, I did a test drive-by of the camera, and it's working perfectly. The license plate is now clear as a bell. I was having all sorts of issues with fuzzy pictures. I'm going to test this throughout the next few days and see how light affects it. It's not necessary for me to understand what's going on, just to get the appropriate footage on my camera.

For what it's worth, I've just got cheap generic NVR's and recording on them via ONVF ports. They've improved dramatically over the last couple of years. For about $200, you can get a 16 channel NVR with a 12TB refurbished hard drive. To have this work so easily on this, it's quite pleasing. Finally getting my security camera install wrapped up.

Yes, firmware. Prior to this, I've been unable to get consistent results. Apparently, the upgrade changed the configuration settings. I gave me a message during the update, but I only saw it flash briefly. The bottom line is that it works consistently in all light situations. I'll know in the next couple of days. If it's all good, I'll post pics of the settings.

Ok, here are a couple of pics. No problems day or night. Have a $90 NVR, it's working great. The only thing I'm concerned about is just getting the tag. I have other cameras that take care of everything else. Anyone out here for mischief? I've got them on film and can identify the vehicle.
