I have a spare IPC-HDW2431T-AS-S2; this one:
I don't have a real use for it (at the moment) and I've been thinking of using it as a camera in a bird house.
But obviously this would not work with a standard camera because of the focus distance.

But I think you can open the camera, twist the lens (cut glue?) and change the focus distance.
Has anyone here done that? Would it be possible to do this?

It's probably already to late for this (run ethernet cable, build bird house and install everything for this season, but it's a thought...

While not for that particular camera, it is a simple procedure. Many threads on it showing the similarities on how to do it.

Fixing focus on IPC-COLOR4K-X
I bought a refurbished IPC-COLOR4K-X from Andy last year and its focus was got great. Then for some reason it got worse over time. So I took it apart today and was able to fix the focus easily. 1. Take off front panel of camera to expose 4 screws. 2. Unscrew 4 screws to open camera case. 3...

Successful change of 1/3" Dahua lens from 2.8mm to 25mm
So, like a lot of people who buy kits, I was initially concerned with seeing my entire property and surrounding area rather than focusing on the important areas. Having found this forum, I was quickly concerned that I had badly spent my money on cameras that weren't going to be able to help me...

Dahua Lens Replacement
Hi, I have a newly purchased Dahua IPC-HDW2431TP-AS-S2 camera and wanted to know if it is possible to change the lens from a 3.6mm to a 2.8mm. Basically, I am testing this Dahua camera to replace a Hikvision IPC-T120-D 2.8mm camera. The image quality on the Dahua is much better but...

This post was for a Hikvision, but the steps are pretty similar, it is a matter of taking off the cover, xacto knife scraping off the glue on the thread and turn in small increments and watch it on a screen.

2CD2387G2-LSU/LU Tear down and refocus (with pictures)
I recently purchased a 2CD2387G2 8MP ColorVu to replace a 2386G2 monitoring the driveway and front yard of my home. After conducting some side-by-side testing with the existing 2CD2386G2 I came to the conclusion the new 2CD2387G2 was not as well focused. Images from the 2CD2387G2 were...

Yes, those topics gave me the idea to refocus this camera. But I'm wondering if it will even be able to focus thát close to the camera.
It needs to focus to, let's say, 10-20cm. at most.

Normally because of the lens and the sensor there is a very small area that one might be able to make some adjustments. Keep in mind that most cameras today come with the lens glued into the mount be it ICR or just open sensor mount. At times this glue is like a Brick and better to just find a different mount that fits the camera. However again design and sensor type can make it hard to get much closer then what it is setup for now.. A 4mp camera with a 1/3 sensor is going to need a different lens. One that has a high f/stop I know we want to go down in number for best low light but for a bird lens to that sensor it would work with larger f/stop 8 to 11 increases the depth of field so things close and far are in focus and this means it will require loads of light to work. IT is best to find a better camera for the job..

However if you want to use the camera you already have I would confirm the type of Lens it is working with. Then confirm if it is an m8 or m12 lens. Then find one for the needs. 1.8mm to 2.4mm macro lens. Would look for something with 5cm or less focus distance and most times cameras with 1.8 to 2.4mm are fisheye and while not what you really want can find lenes out there that are Low Distortion maybe need a 2.8 or 3.6mm that can work with close distance but give ability to still see in the birdbox..

Well, I have some progress. I have opened up the camera. Separting the 'bal' from the base was tricky until I found the way how; then the base went off right away.
I removed the glue from the lens and now I can indeed refocus the lens. And I'm able to focus in really close; like 10cm. from the lens.

So; let's build a bird house!
