POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

Teken, I finally got some time to open it up. Photo attached. The Tripp-Lite surge suppressor is plugged into the GFI outlet. The black box in the back is a compact lithium UPS. The hub plugs into that. I ordered the harsh hub. If I'm understanding your advice, I would add a bare copper...

automatic resolution & framerate downgrade if footage is older than some threshhold

No NVR needed.....a capable IP camera can stream using RTSP directly to a PC on the same network. The PC could use VLC or FFMPEG to record, store, re-encode and play the files.

automatic resolution & framerate downgrade if footage is older than some threshhold

Again, thank you for your reply! sadly I do not have a RTX 4090 right now, but I will definitely see how much my current setup can do. I do have one more question: Assuming I had a computer that can handle these streams easily, how would I actually connect & wire this up? I'm assuming I'd have...

New cameras, what’s the 1st thing you do?

I would try the corners of the garage door frame .. one camera on each corner.

Camera died bc enclosure was full of water, wtf happened?

I think you're right and I think I just figured it out where it's coming from. Just stuck my endoscope up there and thought I saw daylight from a seam. Ran my fingers along the seam and could see where my fingers were as I moved them. So water definitely has to be coming in through that seam and...

Camera died bc enclosure was full of water, wtf happened?

You may have created a drain hole for water getting that area of the roof/soffit. try relocating the whole mess, just a few inches away from the drilled hole, and put caulk around the wire and the hole. and see if the problem stops.

1st time trying to upload an image here so...... This PTZ has worked very well (over 3 years) until the building got a lightening strike. Took out this PTZ and the nvr. We installed a new nvr and when we plugged in this ptz all the cameras that werte up crashed. I have a test meter that can...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

You still have to power it via the usual power terminals on the back. It will not power up from the TTL terminals. In fact I specifically said not to connect the +5VDC USB TTL wire to the +3.3VDC pad on the camera due to the voltage difference. You only want to hook up ground and the two...

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

Thanks for all of the info. That will take me a bit to digest and apply. For the hub, I think it's the only hub that HikVision makes - DS-3E9510P-E.

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

It would be helpful to know the exact model of this Hikvision POE switch. As an aside this highlights the importance of several things as it relates to hardware, grounding, shielding, and the use of SPD’s. Hardware: Anything that will have to endure the extreme heat, cold, moisture, and...

    Cable testing equipment.

I believe there are 2 kinds of questions one can ask and the test equipment are different for each. 1) Is the wire continuous? Are there any breaks along the way or is there a break at the terminators? The majority of testers (at least the ones we can afford as diyers) test continuity...

Waterproof Junction for 4 strings of POE?

Interesting. The downside to that product is that it requires 2 POE ports at the source. The price on all of these types of products has really plummeted recently. The 1-to-4 POE switch I had in there previously was $68 after coupon when I bought it, and now a comparably-specced item is now...

    It can't possibly be the coupler . . . .

I’ll add this is also why every commercial, enterprise, and military installation pass through RJ45 connectors aren’t used. Using a dead end connectors provides a measure of protection for the copper wiring. I shoot some dielectric grease into the RJ45 connector before the wire / load bar is...

Switching from VPN to Port Forwarding.

I think for the benefit of others who may stumble upon this thread and have similar questions and concerns some basics need to be expanded and called out. As it relates to so called thin clients there are three industry recognized types: Thick, Thin, Zero Client. Thick: Is a standard computer...

    Good IPCameras that support OpenIPC

Thank you sir it helps if you solder the wire then solder the pad lightly then throw down a gob of flux I shake like a whore in church as they say and I've supprised myself with this method. Installing NVR outdoors

I’ve found when you get “experts” involved it usually costs a lot more. Dont get me wrong, I hired a pro elec contractor to set the service and install the box with an outlet. From there I didn’t need help figuring out what to put in the box or how to wire/configure ethernet or low voltage stuff.

Hikvision panocam and hikvision NVR. How to enable/detect external microphone

Have you selected Line In vs Mic In on the camera? Make that change through the cameras web interface NOT through the NVR. Ensure you use Internet Explorer to access and to make the change.

Hikvision panocam and hikvision NVR. How to enable/detect external microphone

Thank you, would a hikvision camera automatically switch to the external microphone if wired properly? I wire it just like your photos, but it still insists to use the onboard crappy microphone. Is there some software setting you must change on the NVR side?

HSM2108 PowerSeries Neo 8 Hardwire Zone Expander-not working

I help a small company do alm wiring that has used the DSC legacy systems. The NEO is what they're starting to use. If all else fails call their tech support. battery powered devices: how long do they work?

Reliably and adequately, it can't. To achieve decent battery life, the cams offer no pre-trigger buffer (to see what occurred a few seconds before a motion trigger), no 24/7 recording, poor motion detection, weak and undependable wireless operation and low IR output at night. Take one of the...

    Lightning Strikes

We asked Jeremy Hewitt, senior systems engineer for Inrush Broadcast Services, for his thoughts on facility grounding. He recommends the Ufer ground for new facilities. “A Ufer ground typically consists of steel reinforcing rod (rebar) directly embedded in concrete. It must be at least 20 feet...

    Lightning Strikes

I agree it's likely what it's supposed to be, a Ufer ground, but it's not embedded in the concrete as is typical. Instead it may be connected underground as you say to a grid of interconnected ground rods. That said, if I was doing my best to install the best grounding system I could achieve I...

    Lightning Strikes

If one looks closely, that copper wire comes in from the top right and continues on the backside of the rebar into the ground. Who knows what is buried under all of that. There could be of a radial system of copper wires fanned under the earth.

    Lightning Strikes

It should be noted even fibre cable that is armoured can result in the same problems. Especially if the cable is coiled and placed on a server cabinet. The induced voltage (EMF) can easily rise to 20 - 50 KVA! Other things to consider is incorporating toroidal ferrite cores on the cables...

    Lightning Strikes

Good advice on grounding, etc. Additionally, the OP should know that the lightning does not need to STRIKE. If the slack in an ethernet cable is looped neatly for storage, that loop of wire can generate current when the emp from lightning hits it. I lost at least 2 cameras most likely from...

How to build a functional system that deters crime?

People / cars should not normally be coming within 10 feet or so of your entrance gate. I’m presuming authorized cars stop at a key pad or something and wait while the gate opens. So if your camera allows a trip wire zone between the normal place cars stop and the gate, you should be able to...
