The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection

Hey @wittaj, Do you have the full picture to see an area that this camera can cover? I guess what I'm asking is at 54mm zoom what is the degrees the camera covers. I'm guessing something like 60 degrees? Is there a chart somewhere that converts mm zoom to degrees? In the last couple of days...

...of focal length and how focal length can be more important than megapixels (MP). I mentioned some of this in the post regarding The Hookup’s latest video demonstrating different cameras, including one sold from a forum favorite here @EMPIRETECANDY , but this post will put it all in one place...

...- any chance you can go bare feet LOL and do a running test at 25 feet to compare a dialed in camera to the default auto settings The Hookup used? Here are two freeze frames and while he is beyond the distance I think one could IDENTIFY a person, I know this camera is more capable than this...

    1) It's good to see the Hookup produce better and more accurate reviews, and good if he is reading more detailed critique here, and on youtube comments, and elsewhere ( reddit has some good threads ). 2) I wish he would add a disclaimer to some of his past videos, that the information on those...

We do have to give the Hookup props though on this answer with someone trying to compare these cameras to DSLR cameras. We get someone here every once in awhile with a DSLR background and they are expecting the same image quality.

The HookUp ranks the Empiretech T5842 (Dahua IPC-HDW5842T-ZE) as the best affordable camera if night time performance is the main concern

Hookup's testing, i don't think he will dial too much, more will be at default as newbie. For the professional models auto setting make the pic work bit good than small brand, but more settings will make the camera workig much better. For exactly camera's function there is no compare, most of...

Indeed, Good to see solid comments in the thread on the topic, and good to see The Hookup improve on the discussion and finally bring up DORI concepts, as well as being more open and engaging in a useful discussion. Happy to see this happen and it just not be a 100% Reolink is the best for...

Hot off the press, The Hookup ranks @EMPIRETECANDY T5842 as the best affordable camera if night time performance is the main concern. I still think he has flaws in his analysis trying to do to much with a camera and trying to get a further distance IDENTIFY out of it than the focal length is...

Problems configuring Reolink 823-A with BI5

...All depends on what you want and where you can mount the cameras.. There is only one rule... reolink cameras will never be good for anything. Even their battery cameras (which all sucks in general somehow, not related only to reolink) are one of the worst as we now know thanks to "THE HOOKUP"

Basic Questions in relation to a few common models and recommendations

Makes sense, thank you. I haven't gotten around to reading those LPR threads posted in here from a...

...60ish feet, there isn't enough zoom in the 5442 series, so we go to the 5241-Z12E. Sure, many of these cameras come with additional wiring to hookup I/O or sound or alarms. The problem though with having motion trigger a light is that then momentarily blinds the camera until it adjusts and...

    Hi from another Australian

Did you purchase said Reolinks based on the YouTuber the Hookup LOL? Those cameras are your problem. Reolinks do not work well with Blue Iris and is even worse with DeepStack if you ever decide to go that route. Blue Iris is great and works with probably more camera brands than most VMS...

    Greetings From Canada

Read that thread and do a search here and you will find many have been burned by the Hookup.... Any camera can give a great static image. I can make a crap camera look like noon when it is midnight out, but introduce any motion and it is a ghost blur. In most instances, you want to get a...
