Server/CPU recommendations for ESXi host for Blue Iris, Linux media/file/web server

Wow, that is actually brilliant to pass through a USB display adapter to a VM. I bet it has way higher CPU overhead than a "real GPU" but overall better energy efficiency almost certainly, and with simpler drivers that would be less likely to have a problem with passthrough. Nice.

Blue Iris and Remote Desktop crashing

Unfortunately this sounds like probably a hardware or driver issue and it may be hell to solve. But it looks like your Event Viewer may hold some clues. Although most events are incredibly vague, sometimes they do contain useful information. You should go through that summary page and look at...

Locating a lost Blue Iris key

There might be a registry backup file from before the uninstall, in the Blue Iris program folder, if that hasn't been deleted. That would contain your registration info including the license key. Once restored into the Windows registry, BiUpdateHelper can retrieve your key for you.

    Database issues after power loss

Have you talked to Blue Iris support about this? The log file will probably contain important clues, so I hope you have BI configured to save a log file. In my experience there is a high chance of clip database corruption whenever Blue Iris is killed unexpectedly (which happens a lot to some...

    Blue Iris UI3

@morrisky Can you share some screenshots of how you want that to look? The data is available in UI3. There just isn't really any room in the layout for more stuff to be shown.

    Dahua Cameras hacked

Yes, Blue Iris is meant to be run 24/7 and provide all of the remote access to the cameras through itself. Oh, so Blue Iris is not on-site with all the cameras? That does complicate things. The optimal solution in that case is probably to use site-to-site VPNs for remote access to the cameras...

    PC for Blue Iris

That would technically be more than adequate for the computational needs, however you will not be able to fit a 3.5" HDD in there so you will be very much capacity-limited unless you want to deal with a USB or network attached storage device and the performance/reliability issues that can come...

    Dahua Cameras hacked

Most likely the camera(s) are getting hacked because one or more of them is directly accessible from the internet via port forwarding. The good news is, because you use Blue Iris, all your remote access should be handled by Blue Iris's web server. You do not need to have any cameras port...

Alert clips only stay in menu for 30 seconds?

I guess so. Seems like a questionable decision to hide alerts just because the AI app was not working. There might be a setting in Blue Iris's configuration to control that.

    Hardware/Software Advice for BI

I would avoid a wireless HDMI solution. If you want HDMI, use a cord. You can get HDMI over fiber optic cords for fairly cheap ($50 or so) that are really thin compared to standard HDMI cords. Or you can get HDBase-T adapters which use standard cat5e or better network cable to carry the HDMI...

Alert clips only stay in menu for 30 seconds?

Bizarre. Some things to check: Blue Iris's log, in case it mentioned deleting the alerts, maybe there is a clue there. Your storage configuration (size allocation too small perhaps?) The status window, Storage tab, to see if there is any free space, overallocation, etc. The actual Alerts folder...

Alert clips only stay in menu for 30 seconds?

That is happening to all alerts? Probably something weird going on with the AI confirmation code. Are you on the latest BI release?

    Help with macros please

The cam= argument tells UI3 which camera you want to have selected/active, but the rec= argument tells it to load a clip (which may be from a different camera of course). While the clip is open, UI3's address bar includes the name of the camera which is represented in the clip. When you close...

    blue Iris OS

There are ways to reduce some of Windows' bloat so it doesn't need as much RAM or CPU cores to do the same job in a VM. For example Revision | Revision With that I'd be comfortable running with at least 1 fewer core as there'd be way less chance of some rogue windows process(es) maxing out a...

    BlueIris live view lagging

There is a pause button just above the cameras on the top right corner. Make sure that pause is not active. Also if you have enabled "limit decoding unless required" on camera properties > Video tab, that could be contributing to any live view problems.

LOL wow. I had looked for a reset button in there, but didn't find it! Nope. I didn't know what kind of fans would be compatible and I would not want to inadvertently reduce the airflow or static pressure in a way that could allow the inverter to overheat. I did try magnet mounting four...

    Blue Iris UI3

Your group webcasting stream might be disabled. Near the top of Blue Iris's local console, look for the dropdown list of camera groups. Choose "All cameras" if it isn't already, and click the gear icon next to it. You need "Enable group webcast stream" to be enabled.

What Blue Iris version are you running? I don't have this problem on the latest release (5.9.7.3). Server/CPU recommendations for ESXi host for Blue Iris, Linux media/file/web server

Last I checked, which was years ago, it is possible to migrate ESXi VMs to Proxmox but it requires a bit of command line work. HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

That is good news for consumers, and might have pushed me pretty hard toward using their platform if it had happened like 12 years ago before I got into Blue Iris. Is unifi protect still something you can download and run for free on your own linux box? I wonder how much of the experience will...

    50,000 Foot Questions

Nothing has a standard fixed bit rate. With any decent camera, you get to assign the bit rate yourself for every stream, so it is truly a matter of preference and you can try to balance the quality with your storage concerns and be more conservative on less important cameras. They don't all...
