Thanks for the tips, sorry it took me so long to give them a try. And especially huge thanks for pointing out that I can adjust the focus more finely by changing the "speed" parameter in the GUI. I was able to get slightly better focus. I was pretty focused before, but now it's a notch crisper... -

Recommended computer for ALPR with 2 cameras?
I spoke to Rekor / OpenALPR tech support (they've really been great) and they said that my Intel i5-3320M @ 2.6 ghz cpu "has a PassMark score of 2,617 which should handle around 12 fps @ 1080p or 15 fps @ 720p". Pretty grim. I'm using it's Nvidia GPU. But my tests agree with their conclusions... -

Any limits on the autocheck.com api?
I learned about the autocheck.com api from another thread: https://www.autocheck.com/consumer-api/meta/v1/summary/plate/43120Y1/state/CA It's been really accurate (and fast!) for every vehicle I've looked up. I can't find much info about it on their website. Does anyone know if there are any... -

Great, new night settings are attached. I just set NR down to 30. How do I set gain to 30? In the screenshot I have a range of 10 to 40 for gain. Do you set both to 30? Awesome, done. Interesting, I wonder if that's the noise reduction. I'll post some samples after tonight. -

I dont think so since I'm not changing the focus, just setting it (in other words when there's no change it has no effect). And I get exactly the same pics when I disable my cron job (except that it won't maintain manual focus after changing profiles). That's why I do manual focus. So silly... -

Thank you! I run 1/2000 at night, screenshot attached. I just set my Day shutter to 1/2000 as well. It looks good currently (mid day), I'll see how it looks in the morning. No one goes faster than 10 mph thru that are camera's view. What value do you recommend for NR? Edited to add: attached... -

I'm using a Dahua Z12 camera and get good sharp pics when there's a lot of light, but my early morning pics are blurry. I'm using a fixed focus and zoom, and have a Python script running once a minute to set the focus and zoom so autofocus shouldn't be an issue. Here's a plate read at 6am today... -

Using multiple cameras to improve accuracy.
The number of new plates might subside over time since I've only had LPR running for a few weeks, but most days I'm getting around 300 new plates and some days I get more than 500 new plates. I'm using it at a fairly high traffic campground. MySQL is your friend. Or any other similar database... -

LPR on new Ontario plates
Since starting to do ALPR I've been noticing how some plates are just impossible to read. Ones where some of the letters are wiped off, the plate is bent, etc. Often in ways that are readable by a human (with some strain) but so hard for a computer. I wonder if some people do that purposefully... -

Nice. I guess I should pay more attention to the "confidence" score for it's vehicle guesses. They've been so out in left field I've mostly stopped looking at them, but maybe when it has higher confidence it's accurate. Interestingly this has been pretty accurate for the few tests I've done... -

Phew, today it wasn't stuck in b&w. I think I just needed to take it out of "auto" for daytime. I'm not on Windows (I'm using Ubuntu) so I made a little Python script that does the following: - checks when sunrise and sunset are for my (or whatever) location - updates the day/night schedule... -

I'm curious too, but guessing this? http://doc.openalpr.com/opensource.html I've been meaning to try it. Although I have to say, the ALPR team gives pretty stellar tech support, and their product works well.
