BI Power cycle camera on loss of signal?

Hey itm... What about using a "managed switch" to provide power to the IP camera? Those switches can allow for you to turn off power on a port-by-port basis, which would give you the power cycle capability you are looking for. Or is the camera not POE? Cheers

    BlueIris on your TV!

Hey bp.... Yes, but on a FAST TV it works like a charm! Just wanted you to know  It's now the home-page on all the TV's in my house and makes it easy to keep my eyes on what's happening around the property

    BlueIris on your TV!

Hey Matthew, Thanks for posting this! It's good to know there are options like this...as of right now, I'm doing what Dasstrum is doing, simply pointing my TV's browser to UI3 and it comes right up (no password required). I get decent framerate and nice picture quality.

    Outdoor Enclosures/UPS/Switch

Yikes! Well, if it's any consolation...I just came back inside after swapping out an old 3MP camera for a new 8MP Bullet and while I was out there, the rain turned to ICE PELLETS and proceeded to pummel me while I tried to make the swap! :lmao:

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Hi bp...yeah here are the two numbers: 14954.50 kB/s (IR on) 15404.25 kB/s (Daytime)

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Hey folks... So I went ahead and did the compare between night and day, and really don't see any measurable difference. Attached is a screenshot of the BI "Cameras" tab in the Blue Iris Status Window. On the right you will see two columns showing bitrate with IR on, and the column next to it...

Eggsan....Looks nice a clean! I've used enclosures like those as well for some of my installs. I'll be the humidity introduces a whole other set of problems for you!

Thanks man! super timely as it's still dark outside....took a snapshot of all the cameras and will wait to see the difference once they have all switched over

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

So are you guys saying....bit rate at the "per camera" level? I can of course go into each camera and set them individually, but how can I measure the changes in the aggregate? Unless I'm missing something here?

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

So...I had a chance to test the theory of higher bandwidth and the results are not all that revealing. I used BI Update Helper to take a baseline during the daylight hours and got a number of 2167 MP/s and then ran it again once all the cameras switched to IR mode and the number increased to...

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Heya nejakejnick! That makes so much sense. I should have thought about that! Given the number of cameras I have and the amount of noise in each during the nite..there's probably a whole lot more changing per-frame causing the spike. Not sure what I can do about that...but I guess the first...

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

One more thing....If you want to see a DAMN good 4K bullet camera that has nice motion and great picture, check these out from Nelly's NSC-208-BT 4K (8MP) Ultra HD Outdoor IP Bullet Security Camera 4mm - Nelly's Security I really like them and have bought about 10 so far! They are SUPER SHARP...

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

The max bitrate on this camera is crazy-high at 16,384 Kbps. The side effect of bumping it up to that rate is that all input to the camera has about a two second delay. Meaning, if you choose to pan or zoom, there is a delay between when you click the control and seeing the camera actually move...

    BI Compatibility with Multi-lens Cameras?

Hey there... I've not seen one of these before, but agree it could be interesting! As awsum140 said, in theory it should work...but I can't see how it could be easily displayed within BI and without distortion. You noted in your post, that camera outputs a "stitched together" image. If that's...

Can I run both Blue Iris and NVR?

Hey Farmer D... Gotta say, I agree with fenderman on this one. Seems to me you should just run BI 24/7 and use it exclusively. Is there's something your NVR does that BI doesn't? Just trying to understand o_O

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

yeah...that's what I thought too. I've done a far bit of encoding in my time, so I get the concept. I DID try h265, but it was not any better I'm afraid. This is going to become an issue sooner than we might think as I believe that the itch to go to 4K will necessitate some kind of solution.

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

agreed! Btw...I tried your suggestion about bumping up the bit-rate to see if it would correct the blockiness while panning/zooming. No dice...it's still got this strange blocky effect until you stop moving the camera, then it quickly clears up. Do you think it's just too many pixels to update...

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

Hey bp...check this out. I took a snapshot from UI3 with the camera pointed at the mountains. The first picture is 1x Zoom and the second one is 36x Zoom. I highlighted the spot of the zoom with a red circle to give you a frame of reference when you look at the zoomed in picture...enjoy!

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

I can see some useful stuff in there Dasstrum. I guess I need to dive into profiles next and see what better performance I can get. Still doesn't answer why I'm seeing these CPU bumps though

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Yeah...I just double checked that! I have no profiles setup at all... It's just a head scratcher...and I wouldn't care if it was just a couple percent! But it's a big jump

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Hey Dasstrum... No, I've not really utilized profiles so far. I know the concept...but can you tell me what you do in your system? Odd that you are getting the reverse affect though! :screwy:

    Lense Condensation

Hi Newbie1977, In my experience, if you have newly purchased these cameras, and you are already having fogging issues, then it can (sometimes) be the moisture trapper. These things are sometimes referred to as "Desiccants"...

bp...as always, you Da Man!!!! Just tried changing the PTZ control to the first Hikvision entry and Viola, the focus controls are working inside of BI! :headbang: I am running a triple monitor setup for my desktop (which I grabbed the screnshot from), and my primary monitor is a 4K Dell...

They are really nice...also quite sharp! One thing I've noticed is that when you pan around at night, there is a much more pronounced "blocky-effect" that you can see on the screen. It's only there while you are panning, and within a quarter of a second, it resolves again and looks clear (once...

    Hikvision 4K PTZ 36x Zoom Camera - Model DS-2DF8836IV-AELW

Hey Folks... I've haven't done a camera review before, but thought this would be a good one start with as I haven't seen it reviewed anywhere! I purchased this camera to replace the 1080P 36x Camera I had been using to monitor the main driveway of the house. This was after I had purchased my...

Daytime vs. Nightime CPU usage quite different - anyone else notice this?

Hey folks.... So I've managed to get my systems all nicely tuned (with alot of help from this forum), and now have my BI installs running at a nice CPU load of between 35% and 45% depending on the machine (i9 to i7 respectively). However, I've noticed something odd...those numbers spike up by...
