Blue Iris in a VM? Yup no problem!

You can use VMware ESXi for free. There are some limitations, but most home users would be okay with the free version. The enterprise features will expire after 60 days. Does anyone have a home server with more than 2 physical CPUs? I have two dual socket Xeon servers at home, but no quad...

    Accident 11-2-2020

Glad to hear his insurance is taking responsibility. Same thing happened to me before. Only thing was it was one of my best friends following behind me. LOL. I just let it go because he was a good friend.

Dual NIC setup on your Blue Iris Machine

+1 Most enterprises would opt for the VLAN approach....but of course, most of us are home users so the Dual NIC design is going to be a little easier.

Huge security hole in Apple iOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's ridiculous the number of major CVEs that are listed in this security bulletin. This was especially bad: Impact: A person with physical access to an iOS device may be able to access stored passwords without authentication

Ethernet Cable Max Distance - Something to Think About

Are you using CCA cables or all copper? Also, what is the AWG of your cable? If you have 100m of 28AWG CCA, that might be a problem (I don't know if they even make cat6 using 28AWG wires). Just throwing that out there as another variable to look at if you are saying you have cable issues...

    3990X & Blueirs thoughts ?

That would be really sweet. I know someone who has dual Dell 49" on his desk (side-by-side). My setup is Dell curved 34" in the center (U3419W), and two Dell 27" on the sides (P2719DC & U2718Q). All bought at different times. Effective resolution is 8560x1440. ,

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Of course I don't agree. I would rather Trump win than Biden. The reason I'm not voting for anyone are my own personal convictions.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Lol. I'm sure there is some truth in that. Loudoun County (where I live) is the richest county in America. Fairfax County (next door) is the second richest county. Howard County, Arlington County, etc. However, I don't work for the government or contract for the government (we call them...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I shouldn't say it's not about policies. I agree with Trump's policies more than I agree with Democrat policies. Believe it or not, Republicans are not all alike. There are some that fall in to the non-Trump Republican category (this is evident by the folks that were fired/resigned from...

I'm a republican, why would I rage incoherently and bash Trump? Matter of fact, I bash Biden all the time among by friends (they bash Biden too). It's actually fun to hang out with your buddies and bash Democrats and their policies LOL ;). (of course we are civil about it) The reason I don't...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

With technology today, there is no reason they can't participate remotely (unless there is a policy against it). I've been working from home for 8 months. Before there was coronavirus, I was a 1K flyer and traveling a lot. Everything is done via teleconference now. My kids are doing distance...

I'm happy that Amy Barrett will get confirmed to the Supreme Court. I don't think the Dems can stop her. And hoping that the Senate maintains the Republican majority.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Sure I am. I share many of the same conservative values. Yes, I live in Northern Virginia. And yes, there are lots of Democrats here, but there are many of us Republicans here that proudly wave the American Flag.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

That is mathematically inaccurate. That is more of an emotional statement. Yes, not voting takes away one vote for Trump but does not add one vote for Biden.

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

I'm not voting for Trump or Biden this election. I'm a republican, but just not a fan of Trump. I voted for him in 2016, but honestly I wish there was another republican on the ticket for 2020. I will be voting for my republican senator though.

Sure. Here it is installed. Unless you know of a way to turn off the sun, I'll have to wait until nightfall to see it working. I'm hoping the the IR light won't be as obvious at night with the glare of the uplight.

Blue Iris Mobile App WAN connection (HTTPS) issue

You are correct, but make sure you only forward port 8080 on your router to your BI server. Make sure stunnel is setup on your BI machine to listen on port 8080. Your BI app on your phone will build an TLS VPN tunnel to your BI machine.

Adding a network card for archiving to NAS?

Instead of 600-700mbps of network traffic in a short period of time, you would have that load spread over a longer period. 10-20mbps trickling in constantly. However, I could see an issue being that it keeps the file open across the network for a long period of time. Probably not a good idea...

Adding a network card for archiving to NAS?

I don't see why your idea would not work. Assuming you have room to add another NIC, give it a try. I've also had success with USB 3.0 to 1000baseT dongles (if you don't have an extra PCIe slot available). If BI is archiving to your NAS every 5-10 minutes, why not just record to your NAS...
