    Pre-event recording to SD card

The Evo Select is supposed to read/write at 80/20 Mbyte/s and I'm running H2testw which is showing write speeds of about 67-72 Mbyte/s. What should a good speed be? Possibly goods news is I read the Samsung Evo Select is the same as the Evo Plus and is just re-branded for exclusive sale by Amazon.

Are alerts possible without NVR or BI?

I purchased a rack mount Cisco ws-c3750-48ps-s a few years ago for ~$250. It puts out 370 watts but is only a 10/100 switch with IEEE 802.3af. Sadly you can get them for < $50 now. While it will work for the short term, I want something which fits within my Leviton media panel box which is...

Are alerts possible without NVR or BI?

These are the Dahua 5231 and 5831's. I'm not familiar with whether it needs a NVR to make any action besides recording to SD card. With regards to the alerts, I'm not familiar with how they work so I'm not certain how to answer your question Fenderman. Does the camera record on motion and...

24 port Managed PoE Switch Recommendation

Found a used 16 port Linksys LGS116P and Netgear fs116p for ~$50 on eBay. Would these be a good deal? I suppose I could stack another one on top of the other if I ever get past needing 8 cameras.

Are alerts possible without NVR or BI?

I'm installing some cameras soon with 128GB SD Card. I have no issues in the neighborhood and only need to know when kids are sneaking out at night or sneaking people over when I'm away. That said, I only need to record motion, receive alerts, and able to review the video stream as needed...

24 port Managed PoE Switch Recommendation

I noticed the 24 port switches all seem to have the fan thus my thoughts for the 16 port NetGear. I'd read a few reviews of the BV-Tech's with ports going bad which is also why I figured I'd spend a little more on the NetGear. Since the switch will be in the basement and I already spent the...

24 port Managed PoE Switch Recommendation

Geez, I paid $250 for my switch several years ago and now they're only $30 on eBay. I figured I might get some money back for it but wow it's like a brick now. I was looking at the NetGear GS166PP but I guess I'm better to use the switch I have until it burns up. :(

    Recommendation for Bedroom Camera

While UV would be funny, that's a lot of extra work to produce the same result of calling them out trespassing. Thanks for sharing the camera, that thing is small! Can it be monitored from the network? I'd hate to have to disconnect it to check the footage every time.

24 port Managed PoE Switch Recommendation

I bought a Cisco ws-c3750-48ps-s managed switched several years ago in preparation for surveillance cameras and I'm finally getting around to buying the cameras; however, the switch I have will not fit inside my media panel and has a fairly loud fan running non-stop which happens to now be a...

    Pre-event recording to SD card

I just bought a 128GB Samsung Evo Select on Amazon for $25. Do you think this is legit? https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSD-Adapter-MB-ME128GA-AM/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1541598473&sr=8-3&keywords=samsung+evo+128gb

    Pre-event recording to SD card

I’m getting some new cameras soon and will likely put up my first camera before I have my PC up and running. That said, what’s a good SD card to use for motion events? I was able to buy buy 64GB micros for $20 each last Black Friday so it would be nice to know what my best bet is.

    Recommendation for Bedroom Camera

Our oldest son has broken our trust on several occasions and we're not sure if he breaks into our bedroom when we're away so we'd like to put up cameras in our bedroom and my wood shop. Do you have any good recommendations for camera? It wouldn't be dark in the bedroom but could be in the...

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

I actually just noticed the seller has some coupons which makes it $180 cheaper ... I really wanted to go with Andy but it’s looking like I might have to try my luck with dhgate if they really can be updated.

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

Thanks, I emailed Andy and for what I’m looking to buy he was $80 more. He said the other cameras couldn’t be upgraded; however, the dhgate advertisement “says” they can be upgraded for life, include video instructions, and 2 year warranty and support like Andy. I was willing to overlook the...

LED Motion Flood Lights - Dahua 5231 or 5831

FWIW - I have an i7 4770k processor and 32GB RAM so it's good to know I could handle 4K.

LED Motion Flood Lights - Dahua 5231 or 5831

My perception of the 4K quality is based on the threads I've reviewed here where the 4K 5831 camera was able to clearly capture a license plate's numbers versus the 5231 not being able to and also another which seemed to provide more clarity in the sky and various other objects. Unless I'm...

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

I'm not that hard up for money that I'd use dhgate to save $5. LOL I'm willing to spend a little more for good customer service, peace of mind, etc. but have to draw the line in the sand somewhere. That said, I'll hit up Andy for pricing and see how competitive he can be and what he offers for...

LED Motion Flood Lights - Dahua 5231 or 5831

I don't need 4K but nobody needs 50+ inches of TV either yet we always seem to want bigger, better, more clear, etc. If I run Blue Iris instead of a NVR, will it be able to keep up with 8-10 4K cameras? If it's not that big of a difference I'm fine to stick with the 5231, save a bit of money...

LED Motion Flood Lights - Dahua 5231 or 5831

I'm looking to purchase several cameras and the consensus seems to be the Dahua 231 is the "best" low light performing camera. I have motion activate LED floodlights similar to the lights in the link below above my front/rear garage doors. They seem fairly bright to me and wonder whether the...

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

I’ve only begun reading the forums last week so I’m familiar with many people purchasing through Andy but have not read any threads yet regarding how he’s taken care of issues, etc. Service and support is of course part of the reason for this post, to understand why I might not want to go...

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

Thanks Fenderman! I’m not sure the differences between country of origin but thought I read the Chinese strip IVS in their firmware so thought I’d mention I don’t need it for clarity. Once I have my list finalized, I’ll absolutely see what Andy can do but wondered whether there’s anything...

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

I’m looking to buy a bunch of cameras by Black Friday and have been reading the forum for the best camera and it seems the favorite is the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE. It seems many people prefer to use Blue Iris rather than a NVR and thus you lose the IVS features. I’m not sure what Andy’s Black a Friday...
