    Web Server Set Up

I think I figured it out. In the modem, under DMZ I entered the IP address and it worked. Is this an appropriate/safe way to do this? I can now access with iPad etc. Also should I set my ip to static?

    Web Server Set Up

I’m attempting to set up the web server in BI options. I use the remote wizard and everything goes fine until I get to step just after it tests port 81. In that step I get a white check mark in a green circle. Next step is a white x in a red circle. This is where I get confused as what to do...

    ZYXEL 1900 MANAGED SWITCH

Well I’ll have to say it’s been conquered.:) The switch is working and still does even if I turn off the switch, reboot the computer or pick it up and shake it.:) Now it’s only an eight port and all the ports are used up. Time to get another:(. Cameras even work. Now to set them up in BI.

    DSL MODEM

I need to replace my DSL/ROUTER modem. I’m following the advice that I should get two seperate devices. Does it make a difference when purchasing a router that it’s going to be used with a DSL modem? Any suggestions on what models perform the best would be appreciated.

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

Philip sounds like a good deal but who makes v7 and what about service if needed. Don't forget about fan noise if that might be a problem. And check out those SFP ports. Do they require and adpater? If so they are very expensive.

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

Looney2ns I thought about taking it apart but as you know that would void the warranty. Plus it’s brand new and who knows what else is wrong with it. RazorsEDGE I’ll take a look at that switch as long as it’s not managed. HarveyB that’s way I chose this switch. Two seperate uplinks so you...

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

Unfortunately TonyR you are so correct. I’ve never had a problem with Amazon. Eventually they will put many small businesses out of business. I have a feeling this companys customer’s are mainly professionals and not end users. I do love their tech support however. Guess it’s a trade off between...

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

Ya I have six foot cords I recently purchased still a no go. You can tell there’s something wrong with the receptical portion where it’s secured to the metal box. It was very poorly packaged from the supplier and I’m sure it got bounced around a bit before it got to me. They except returns but...

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

I purchased the IPCamPower IPCP-8P2G-AT 8 Port POE. Received it today and it was DOA. The power port on the back of the unit was defective. You could wiggle the cord and get power but let go of the cord and power was gone. The cord, quite short for my liking but replaceable. For a $200 switch...

    PoE Switch Suggestion List

I use an iPad most of the time to view the forum. Your zip file won’t open in an iPad. I haven’t tried it on my windows machine as of yet. Your original post did work.

    DSL Modem/Router

Tangent and TonyR you are so correct about lightening. I keep finding things that seemd to work but not as they should. The modem and my phone system had hidden problems. Somethings connected to the surge protectors were destroy, damaged and undamaged. I did replace all my surge protectors...

    DSL Modem/Router

I take it you never lived in the remote countryside. It takes me 30 minutes one way to go to the grocery store. Miles from the closest neighbor. HEAVEN! At least some would say.

    DSL Modem/Router

My DSL modem/router was recently damaged by a lighting strike. I thought it had survived but I recently found two of the four ports do not work. Nothing wrong with the WiFi signal as far as I can tell. I need some advice about getting more working ports. Should I replace the modem and get...

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

Mr F. I would agree with you that there are many benefits to a managed switch but only if you use them. As far as relatively easy to setup, that would be a matter of prospective. You, amoung others, are experts with these systems and sometimes forget that when trying to explain to inexperienced...

    BI > i7-3770 vs. i7-7700

Hello Don’t know much about computers but I did a lot of research before buying the I7-7700. It will out do the the I7-3770 in every way. Speed alone by about 25%.

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

Mdm From my very limited experience go for the unmanaged. I purchased a managed switch and what a nightmare trying to setup. Lots of people here tried to help me and I didn’t give up on it for quite some time. It finally beat me and I purchased an unmanaged switch. If you have any experience...

    Passive POE

Can a passive POE device/switch be used to power Hikvision cameras? Like the devices from WiFi Texas and a few others. Something about passive vs af standard I don’t unite understand. Good and bad of passive. Thanks

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

Mdm Somewhere amongst all this information I read it is best to use a seperate switch for an NVR? I really don’t think an NVR is going to be simpler. I have no experience with either only from what I read. Mr. Fenderman convinced me to go the BI route.

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

Mdm Before purchasing cameras, especially overseas, check out the forum for problems, advice, etc. on the models you chose. Nothing better than local support when needed. Personally I didn’t think this project would be as time consuming as it turned out to be. I’ve learned much more than I ever...

Don’t know how to copy a link but the website is nellyssecurity.com IPCamPower IPCP-8P2G-AT 8 Port POE Plus Switch W/ 2 Gigabit Uplinks Designed for High Wattage IP Security Cameras. They only sell three models so not hard to find on site. Depending on the location of your cameras you may be...

    PoE+ switch for 8 cameras?

Hello Philip The Bv-tech POE switches have fans in them. Don’t know how loud they are however. Keep in mind the number of ports to the maximum wattage of each switch. Nelly’s Security has a true 8 port switch that can handle 30 watts for every port, 240 total. It is however a bit expensive at...

New from Pennsylvania - setup questions

Welcome mdm mdm I’m as new to this as you but have learned a bit about switches, with the help of learned members. The switch you are looking at should do fine for the cameras you have chosen but it has a maximum capacity of 96 watts. It may well supply 30 watts to a port, but up to 3 ports...

    NELLY’S SECURITY POE SWITCHES

So if I understand you correctly all the ports of a switch facilitate the transfer of data at speeds up to 10/100/1000Mbps. POE is just the wattage that the switch can supply with POE + capable of more wattage. A standard switch accomplishes the same task except no power. So non POE cameras can...

    NELLY’S SECURITY POE SWITCHES

Thank you looney2ns. I probably should not ask but are, what you call, standard gigabyte ports equal to better than running POE or POE+ to NVR or daisy chaining. The POE ports on this switch are POE+. There are only a few switches like this most, as you know, are just 8 port POE or POE+. You...

    NELLY’S SECURITY POE SWITCHES

Just what I wanted to hear. So just hookup my cameras to the POE ports and the SFP ports to NVR? Nothing else needed other than cables correct?
  27. Stanley71

    NELLY’S SECURITY POE SWITCHES

Yes it does. According to Nelly’s their unit doesn’t require any addition devices for the SFP port to work. You plug up to eight cameras into the POE ports and then run a Cat5 cable from one of the SFP ports to the NVR. Is that your understanding of how the above unit works? Nelly’s is far...

    NELLY’S SECURITY POE SWITCHES

Has anyone had experience with the POE switch from Nelly’s, IPCP-8P2G-AT, an 8 port POE, with 2 gigabit non powered uplink ports, total 10 ports or any other POE switch they sell. Price aside looking for some input/experience with the switches.

    DAISY CHAIN

That’s the plan just doing a bit of research. I called a seller of these switches and was told nothing else was needed just plug a Cat5 or fiber optic cable into the SFP then another from the other SFP port to the router. Bp2008 shed a different light on the matter. I have more faith in what he...

    DAISY CHAIN

Maybe, but the Zyxel adapters compitable with Xyzel switches cost loads more than $20.00. Not into experimenting anymore.
