Is Shinobi considered as an NVR software?

the configuration gui itself would need a UI designer, lot´s of settings in an endless list. Otherwise it works just fine. it´s not very lightwight when you run it with multiple high resolution cameras.

Are you concerned about Hikvision's trustworthiness?

simple solution - put these untrusted vendors into a dedicated network. do not allow them internet access, do not use any of the provided cloud services. and from my point of view - there is no difference between US or chinese based vendors.

Zoneminder Newest VERs easy to install and setup

Zoneminder works with most NAS systems (Freenas, Synology,..) as docker/jail container. you may run into cpu/memory limitations on the cheaper devices - but it should be good enough for a simple tes.t for advanced users i would recommend a deep look into the zoneminder eventserver (ai...

Ethernet Cable Max Distance - Something to Think About

PoLRE is a common standard for this, but I would only recommend it with (smart) managed switches. it's a bit tricky to debug such connections and with unmanaged switches it gets really tedious. another point is the number of connections. for a handful of cameras PoLRE is a good solution. for...

blue iris for 250 cameras at 4mp

Milestone is not bad for a bigger setups, they also provide nice appliances. Also i would not say that multiple (virtual) servers are a pain since it makes scaling way easier. It´s quite common to split up to multiple instances. Even milestone does that with theire enterprise nvr. Yes, with BI...

    UniFi-Video Products End of Life...

after 7 years of running unifi video (which was provided for free) i can't really understand the current criticism. since 2 years unifi video is clearly not actively developed any more and sooner or later cloud services will be discontinued. if an msp complains about this today, he simply didn't...

if you´re short on money => buy only the cameras and use microSD or a simple PC as storage. Later on you can upgrade and don´t stuck with a crappy NVR,
