    Setting up IVS tripwire...

I agree. I believe doing the config on the cam itself includes some features you don't get by configuring on the NVR. And as bigredfish said, letting the cam push the config info to the NVR works flawlessly.

"Little Knot Here" - 8,600 Ft Prewire

All that wiring required lots of planning, including planning for the future. As Mat200 says, if you think you need qty n cables, pull n+1, to be prepared for the future unknowns. 20+ yrs ago, I pulled cables, mainly for what I needed back then throughout the house. That included POTS phone...

Switch from WiFi to Wired (just by plugging in Ethernet cable)?

I had a WiFi cam, and suffered through many off-line events. I had to power-cycle to get them online again. IIRC, I simply connected an ethernet cable. I entered the config screens on the cam, and disable the WiFi. I don't think I needed to press a reset button. Instead, aw/ re-conconfig and...

Outdoor motion detection - better camera or other ideas?

I like the combo PIR + Radar unit. It can be set to require a warm body (PIR) and movement (radar detected). This can be connected to the "Alarm In" on the camera, which many cams support.

    Security cameras on Construction site

Deterrent: A "dummy cam" for $10 from Monoprice can deter. It includes a blinking led, powered by 9V baattery. Cams might document WHO the thieves were, if you set up cams to get good facial shots. But often, the cams only document WHAT happened, since facial id, esp at night, may not be...

I have an ancient clamshell pc, running SmartPSS. It shows the cams I'm interested in. It's connected wifi, back to a wireless router on the subnet of the NVR (just to seperate traffic from my home's main net) Since it's a windows pc, a screen saver could display time, and conceal the cam...

what is the purpose of the inner lens?

Dust cover? Maybe. It might be added to lower the friction when the IR cut filter physically moves in or out. It might be a spacer, so the elements in the optical path are in the right location. Your 2nd pic sure looks like a part of the IR cut filter. This moves a glass piece (with IR...

How to determine what size lense is on a camera?

I can think of a few ways. - The cam gui will give you the mfgr name, right? Check on-line for what cams they offer, with their corresponding lens sizes. That will narrow down the possibilities for lens size. - Check the camera calculator at IPVM site. Compare theoretical views (from that...
