    Drive-by shooting!

Thank you @samplenhold This happened in Newburgh NY. I know my profile says Boston, but I need to update it. I moved to be closer to my elderly parents who need my help. I am going to study the forum threads you've kindly directed me to. It is going to be a challenge to figure out how to add...

    Drive-by shooting!

@wittaj This alternative is interesting. Let me get this right... The "combiner" part of this device stays inside and plus into two ports on my PoE switch. I have a 16-port Netgear switch and currently only use 9 ports so plenty of available space. The "splitter" part goes outside in a junction...

    Drive-by shooting!

Thank you @wittaj Will the splitter function outside? I guess I need to place it inside a weatherproof junction box. Can you please recommend one?

    Drive-by shooting!

In my heart of hearts, I knew it would only be a matter of time... On Saturday night around 10:15pm, a car drove down the street and fired two shots at the people hanging out on the stoop across from my house. My house is in an "up-and-coming" small city plagued with problems more commonly found...

@killerdan56 Pardon my ignorance, but what is "OP"? The curl command above is specifically for ip cameras that use the Dahua API.

    Dahua API and active deterrence?

@Mark_M Yes--That is from one of my earlier posts. That command will trigger the audio file that has been manually selected in the camera through its web interface. What I would like to do is change the audio file by issuing an API command at the command line in linux.

    Dahua API and active deterrence?

Thank you @Mark_M I think what I'll need to do install go2rtc in Home Assistant OS. go2rtc will let me stream any file I want from my raspberry pi to my cameras.

    Dahua API and active deterrence?

I have a Dahua TiOC (IPC-T5241H-AS-PV). Does anyone know the Dahua API command to select the audio file (among the pre-installed files) to play when the camera's alarm is triggered? For example, it would be nice to be able play the siren wav file, then play the wav file saying "You are...

API to turn on light for the IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV

The following works to turn on the audio file that you've selected inside the camera. I use this on my IPC-T5241H-AS-PV. http://username:password@camera_ip_address/cgi-bin/coaxialControlIO.cgi?action=control&channel=2&info[0].Type=2&info[0].IO=1

    Dahua API active deterrence Audio

Yes. Something like the following command issued in linux will trigger the file you've selected. curl --digest -g "http://username:password@camera_ip_address/cgi-bin/coaxialControlIO.cgi?action=control&channel=2&info[0].Type=2&info[0].IO=1"

    speaker in IPC-T5241H-AS-PV stopped working!

Nick Mowen over at the Frigate github diagnosed the issue and provided the fix. These cameras have two-way audio and if you're connecting to the using Frigate's go2rtc functionality, then you need to append #backchannel=0 to the end of the statement for these cameras. If you haven't checked...

    speaker in IPC-T5241H-AS-PV stopped working!

I am hoping someone here can help me. I have two IPC-T5241H-AS-PV model TiOC cameras (Dahau clones). Both of these were working fine until I recently upgraded my NVR software (Frigate 0.11.1 to 0.12.0). Now I cannot get either camera to play the audio file associated with its alarm function. I...

    Montavue - 8MP 4K Active Deterrence Turret Camera - MTT8106-AISMDAD

Many thanks @wittaj After considering the trade-offs, I think I'll just get another 2MP IPC-T5241H-AS-PV or maybe the Dahua 4MP N43BU82 because they would replace my 4MP N42BJ62 cameras. I really need the siren. The higher resolution is just a nice to have. Maybe some time in the future, there...

    Montavue - 8MP 4K Active Deterrence Turret Camera - MTT8106-AISMDAD

Many thanks. I got confused because it says "Alarm: 1 in, 1 out". Would the speaker need external power or would the camera's alarm out provide enough? Can you recommend a speaker to use with it?

    Montavue - 8MP 4K Active Deterrence Turret Camera - MTT8106-AISMDAD

Many thanks @wittaj How about this one? I know it doesn't have IR, but this would be in front of my house where is considerable ambient light from street lamps. In fact, my camera there now has IR, but it never engages. I know I need to prioritize certain capabilities. I want high resolution...

    Montavue - 8MP 4K Active Deterrence Turret Camera - MTT8106-AISMDAD

Does anyone have any experience with the Montavue MTT8106-AISMDAD? The sensor size is 1/2.8" so it should have pretty good low light capability even if it is 8MP, right? At $219 it seems like a good deal. Any thoughts...

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

@mephisto_uk Frigate does require a bit of knowledge about Linux to set up. But I consider myself a newbie and got it working. Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I was able to buy two Google Coral TPUs in usb form factor on Amazon from third-party sellers for about $130 each. That's nearly twice the price Google was charging before the pandemic. I hear it is caused by chip shortage too, but this chip shortage has been going on for two years--what is...

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I am a big fan of Frigate NVR and its integration with Home Assistant. The video below was taken by one of my cameras and demonstrates the power of this system. For some context, this camera is on the front of my brownstone which sits about 16 feet back from the sidewalk and up about 10 feet...

This "review" of Frigate by The Hook Up is ridiculous. It is not a review at all. He doesn't even say what version he "reviewed". Frigate is being constantly improved. I suspect he's pushing products that earn him money. As he says, Frigate is free. So there's no money in it for him. What a...
