    I bought both models. 5231 wins. However, if you like to play and sit there and watch cameras the 5831 is super. At night... 5231 makes it easy to suggest.

    Maybe try cleaning the SD Micro card slot pins? I’ve had this happen to me before and had to clean the contacts inside the camera.

    I am going to stick with what works. I have one Dahua ipc-hdw5231r-ze and two Dahua ipc-hdw5831rp-ze models. I tested 8MP model but there is no need really to get caught up in the megapixels like you have said... 5231 wins.

    I am using the Samsung 128 EVO Plus microSDXC UHS-I Card in multiple cameras and had zero issues. Playback and Recording has been excellent.
