    Dahua 5231 owners - PFA130-E or PFA137

I had a heck of a time mounting this junction box (PFA130) with my 5231's. The problem is not necessary that it's complicated, it's just difficult to juggle the camera and wire dangling while screwing in the mount and it cannot be put together beforehand as all screws in the base layer are...

    BI update

I saw that an update for BI was released a couple days ago, but I haven't seen much talk about it on the forums as far as how it is performing (I'm almost positive I've just overlooked it, but I can't find anything about it anywhere). Is this a good, solid update with the kinks worked out...

    Securing cameras

Thanks @SouthernYankee , I'll check out parental controls. Making note of all the mac addresses now. NIC card sounds like a goal to attain. I'll have to do that, just to be safe.

    Securing cameras

@pozzello awesome, thanks. I do have UPNP disabled through the router, but I'll have to make sure I do that through the cams, too. Would setting each cam to have it's own static IP be helpful? Having trouble figuring out where that setting is to limit outbound connections from certain IP's on...

    Securing cameras

Good evening guys, So my network is all set up and locked down tight with my router in bridged mode to an Asus 1900 and a VPN to remotely connect to my network while off the LAN. My Dahua cams came in today and my next step is securing them on my network so they cannot be accessed by anyone...

    Port scanner shows it open

Makes sense. I didn't realize that's what it was doing. I gotcha. I can see why people would be tempted to port forward, it's super easy. I had a feeling it wasn't correct though after all I've read on this forum, that's why I wanted to make sure. I'll definitely look into those. Plan on...

    Port scanner shows it open

@fenderman you got it. That fixed it. Thank you VERY much. It's strange that the BI app, when you look up the key, would auto populate the wrong information. I'm assuming it's because I'm running a passthrough? @NoloC good looking out and walking me through it. It's very much appreciated. You...

    Port scanner shows it open

It appears that it is. I can edit it to an integer in the port selection but not with the IP's.

    Port scanner shows it open

Yes I do see it connected on the router while I'm off wifi and connected to the cell network. OpenVPN also shows a good connection as well from my phone. I do notice that when attempting to remote view with the app, it attempts to contact port 81 (it's after my IP's). Should that be happening?

    Port scanner shows it open

Just removed the port forward and, even with the VPN connected, the blue iris app now won't connect. Says check server address.

    Port scanner shows it open

Oh. I only did so because it prompted me during the remote viewing wizard. So if I close 81 and just run to my LAN through my vpn I should be good to go from outside the network? Still learning, obviously.

    Port scanner shows it open

So I got BI up and running with a pass through from my ISP to my router, set a static ip on the pc and forwarded port 81 from the router to BI for remote viewing. OpenVPN is also set up. My question is that when I run a scan on all ports online, 81 comes up as open. I just want to make sure...

    What to do first?

@pmcross, you rock. Thanks for breaking it down for me. I didn't even think of plugging them into the router and accessing it through there. I just got an Asus AC1900 bridged with my ISP model and set all the IP's last night, so I'm pretty familiar with the router setup. But, just for...

    What to do first?

@pmcross I was thinking that as well, although I'm not sure exactly how to go about that yet as I'm new. I believe my plan was to dl the Dahua software and change their IP's in there, then in BI. Also, I was going to change them to something outside of the WAN to keep them from being accessed...

Unfamiliar with that, @tangent. I apologize and note that a Google search didn't help me.

    What to do first?

Thanks @SouthernYankee. Cables have already been ran (there's an existing system I'm replacing) so once the PC is up it should be a piece of cake. I went ahead and got the router set up with OpenVPN which was a breeze. Thanks for your recommendations, super helpful. Do you know if there's any...

    What to do first?

New (used) PC, cameras and PoE switch should be here in a few days. I'll have to install the new HDD, do a fresh install/updates and get BI up and running on it before it's ready. Asus router came and should be ready to be installed. Cat5 (pre-existing) is already ran to existing cameras that...

    BI-OpenVPN questions

@NoloC I saw that your Asus is behind an AT&T modem- did you by chance bridge the NVG589 to an Asus AC1900 (ac68u) and run OpenVPN on the Asus? I'll be looking to do that same thing here shortly and have been looking for someone who's done that successfully with the same routers in case I run...

To VPN or not to VPN

That's encouraging, it sounds like exactly what I'm going to try to do with bridging my Arris (ISP) modem to the Asus and running OpenVPN through the Asus. That's the only part that's got me worried so I'll be glad to get everything in hand and give it a shot. Already thinking of what friends I...

To VPN or not to VPN

@lane I see. I'd be using AT&T and an iPhone. I guess I'll have to search around the forums and see, but I would imagine it works if this is the router everyone seems to recommend for use with an ISP. I was hoping for better news from you, though :)

Actually, now that I look at it, I'm not sure that switch would work.
