    Useful Dahua Resource

When I was still finding my way around Dahua a few years ago there was very little information online other than this site which I found very informative. I have no connection with Bahamas Security.

Not my video, Construction Workers Catch Thief - Wait For It.

I get the pacifists but I also get the guy who signs up to clear landmines. Just don't dump on the landmine guy it's not called for and we all need him.

Not my video, Construction Workers Catch Thief - Wait For It.

Criminals in the know will avoid that site now, job done. I live in an area where we have violent house robberies along with other serious and violent crime. I've been left alone for the moment because I respond to threats but as I age I worry more and more and hope my neighbours will take up...

Not my video, Construction Workers Catch Thief - Wait For It.

It may well be that there had been previous thefts from that site and the workers/owners were tired of it. Certainly the criminals approach with some confidence as if they knew the site to be an easy target.

    Video Analytics

Thanks for the suggestions Bryan, we do use Rialto and it's performance seems reasonable. I'll look into your suggestions.

    voltage drop in POE applications

I use Tenda 5 port desktop POE switch 803.2af/at input is 51 volts DC and 58 watts total or 30 watts per port (4 ports) supplies up to 250 meters just flick a switch to select full duplex for shorter range higher speed or half duplex for long range lower speed. Uses all eight cores for power...

    Increasing motion detection reliability?

Fastb, I agree with what you say, and thanks for clearing that up for me. My comment IRO IVS is that the IVS "Option" when in the brochure or manual. It's misleading and could lead one (Me at first) to believe it has to be ordered with the unit. High end Dahua's probably have processors and...

Smart PSS - Live View config, IVS lines

Fastb, You misunderstood my post as I stated that V2.0 behaviour appeared not to show lines on event. I was wrong, V2.0 does show the lines when they are crossed. I suppose this is like an alarm to alert you that a line was crossed if the console was unattended. I'm not sure how far you can go...

Smart PSS - Live View config, IVS lines

I'm using Smart PSS V2.0 and can toggle IVS lines on or off in live view. I've not noticed them reappear on event when set to off but may have missed this. I'll have a look but it may take time as it's via a long range wireless network and very little human traffic passing by. The only V2.0...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Okay, I obviously don't agree with your responses because they duck the lighting question and I refuse to make it personal as it helps no one. I'll delete my posts, including this one, which are directed at you as they have nothing to do with the aspects revealed in the excellent video above...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Fenderman, god here, wow you get personal from the start and don't let up. I know you're not stupid so am intrigued as to why you can't be more specific regarding my views on lighting other than a blanket dismissal and insults. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's interested in your views on...

    attempted warehouse burglary

god here :) Which takes me back to my original statement that good lighting is not a crime deterrent. The fact that they take a break in the shadows tells me they are using the light to scope out their next move and /or maybe see if any response has arrived on scene.

    attempted warehouse burglary

Once one of them get hold of a family member or pet it's their call. Again not something I saw on TV. They do get shot occasionally but it's the exception.

    Introduction and seeking advice/opinions

You said you had budget constraints. If you need a number of cameras upfront, don't underestimate HDCVI. It's quality video at full frame rate. Use poweraxe (coax with a twin core power line) cable and a single power supply at the head end. The recorder just keeps running unattended when you go...

    attempted warehouse burglary

I've only demonstrated the concept at my home with 80 watt floods at chest level through my house windows and the reaction in every case was surprise at the level of night blindness delivered. I only tumbled to the idea when substituting sodium lamps with LED floods, to cut electricity bills, on...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Fenderman can you be more helpful. I asked for some specifics and all you've done is call b'shit and appealed to God. Oh wait I see you're referring to me as god, I see the difference. Seriously give me a few pointers on the light scenario rather than personal attacks.

    Introduction and seeking advice/opinions

Sticking with Dahua (because I'm a fan) Stay away from packages. Low cost = Tribrid Recorder with sufficient channels for your purpose, then add HDCVI (HDCVI = megapixel over coax) cameras easy setup and full framerate at up to 2MP with on board motion detection at very reasonable prices. You...

    Video Analytics

Anyone using video analytics successfully especially for human detection? A few years ago there was a lot of hype and it seemed to be pie in the sky but I think it has since evolved into a decent tool although expensive. I often need a wide field of coverage where the relevant target moves...

    attempted warehouse burglary

In situations such as the video above (assuming the premises housed high value goods and a simple next layer is needed) and wanting to disrupt any further attempts at access I would flush set an 80 watt (<5000 lumens) LED floodlight into each door / window at chest or face level where access is...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Good lighting (in the conventional sense) is not a crime deterrent. Have a look at the video above and many other very informative videos posted by the same person. Show me one where criminals avoid well lit areas. Good lighting is used by the perps recorded above to effectively carry out their...

    attempted warehouse burglary

In the light scenario, I'm really referring to criminals moving around unobserved and undetected but if needs be, at least placing them on the back foot if a confrontation should occur. Colmcille I don't want to get into a dog debate here other than to state, for the benefit of those that may...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Fenderman, care to pick the bullshit (as you call it) apart point by point rather than outright dismissal. I really am interested in your reasoning. Admittedly my focus is more on the residential lighting scenario but my comments were triggered by the total disregard of the well lit areas in the...

    attempted warehouse burglary

Good lighting is not a crime deterrent, it's an asset used by criminals. Innovative lighting may be a deterrent. Even at relatively low wattages LED lights irritate the retina and badly affect night vision. Mount LED flood lights at chest level (High up is to their advantage) and ruin the...

    Increasing motion detection reliability?

Regarding IVS Optional......I think it implies, only one of these "IVS" options at a time. So one cannot for instance use line crossing and intrusion at the same time etc.
