Ali Express shopping tip, save a lil' cheddar...

@hmjgriffon Yeah that's the beauty of it, I use it so much I added it's plug-in to Chrome. When I visit a shopping site like AliExpress it shows me in the corner how much I'll get back, I just click on the rebate button top right before I check out and the rebate goes on my next quarter...

Dahua Starlight Fixed Lens Turret (IPC-HDW4231EM-AS)

SO I'm 100% sure there's someone here a lot more qualified to advise you on this but I can definitely weigh in as it seems to be working for me. I've had excellent results by using tripwire and target filter to qualify valid targets, get snapshots and time stamps, and avoid false alarms. So as...

Ali Express shopping tip, save a lil' cheddar...

Not sure I follow. I don't think I see where shipping plays a role, maybe I'm not understanding you properly? The rebate is applied to the purchase price, in my example ordering from BEC on ALi it would be DHL free shipping, my order total would be about $268 so I'd get about $9.38 back.

Ali Express shopping tip, save a lil' cheddar...

So if you don't use Ebates WTF are you doing man? Ebates offers 3.5% cash back on anything from Ali, I've been a eBater ;) for about a year and probably gotten about $1000 back since then, seriously... I do tend to hunt the stores with the biggest rebates, freaking cleaned house at Christmas...

Dahua Starlight Fixed Lens Turret (IPC-HDW4231EM-AS)

Man it only took me one night of the "bug party" to look for an alt strategy for motion events. Spring on a mountain in Georgia is bug city. IVS intelligent functionality on the HDW5231R-Z was the ticket for sure! Not one single false alarm in two days (not a long time I know) but it's...

Dahua smart pss + pc-nvr on windows 10 + gdmss

Found a solution to the PC-NVR password change issue in version v3.0. Once PC-NVR service is running, check in the system tray of to find the PC-NVR icon. Right click and choose, "Password Setting" to edit and save a new PC-NVR password. If you need to change your default port, there is...

Hey all! First post from an IT guy just setting out down the IP camera path...

Okay here's what I've learned since getting some great advice on gDMSS+ and discussing SmartPSS for PC (PC-NVR). As mentioned before, I've got a 2MP Starlight HDW5231RP-Z and (one of) the issues I had was intelligent features simply did not work at all. Well after trying everything to get them...

Saw a meraki post on linked in about cameras, has to look lol.`

You are absolutely right, there are a ton of ways to get 20TB hella cheaper than $20k bucks. The idea they pitch and that almost all major IT orgs buy into is to buy a $10k piece of hardware and pay another $10k+ to have it be "support's problem" if something breaks. The hardware won't be 4...

Saw a meraki post on linked in about cameras, has to look lol.`

Oh look my first topic on IPcamTalk that I actually know a little something about ;) I just learned about Meraki last week at a Cisco event in AZ where I had dinner with their global business development manager. Meraki (which is now Cisco Miraki) cameras are better seen as a subscription...

Hey all! First post from an IT guy just setting out down the IP camera path...

Thank you very much for the advise, I'll source that software and try it out right away. So far SmartPSS running from PC doesn't seem to be the ticket so I look forward to my results with iDMSS+ / gDMSS+

Hey all! First post from an IT guy just setting out down the IP camera path...

Thank you, great tips! So yes, very low pop density, I'm in the woods on a mountain ;) My primary risk here is burglaries during workweek day hours when my wife and I are both at our respective offices an hour away in Chattanooga or while on vacation. Police response time up here is laughable...

Hey all! First post from an IT guy just setting out down the IP camera path...

Greetings! So I've been a fly on the wall here for a while and have learned much, thanks to all. I decided to dip a toe before plunging in but wanted to dip the right toe, so I ordered a HDW5231RP-Z as my first cam after seeing all the praise for it around here. Received it and mounted it...
