    Swap harddisk

I have read somewhere that an SSD is not good with BI because it keeps writing over and over again, and SSDs don't like repeated writing. Am I wrong?

Proper recording / motion settings for blizzards?

Do as beepsilver writes: Separate illuminator from camera, that will do the trick

    Blue Iris , Power Outage

I know that this thread has been sleeping for some time, but I just want to draw your attention to a wonderful free piece of software called "winapcupsd". The regular software that comes with the consumer UPSs from APC is called PowerChute and will not send an e-mail in case of a mains blackout...

    Swap harddisk

Hi Folks, I have a Windows 7 computer with Blue Iris and some home automation software. The system has run perfectly for five years. Considering that the 2.5" harddisk has been spinning non-stop for five years (and was used when I installed it), I suspect that it could fail any day. I have...

What IR illuminator would be best?

IR illuminators would help but getting facial characteristics at 20-24 feet with a wide-field camera seems difficult with any choice of camera.

Script to Detect Colour, Make and Model of Car and People from IP Camera (Updated July 2019)

So you would keep Tensorflow decoupled from Blue Iris, then running them simultaneously as two separate programs? That would be an easy way to do it, but Blue Iris would still give a bunch of false alarms?

Script to Detect Colour, Make and Model of Car and People from IP Camera (Updated July 2019)

I did not train it myself, although it shouldn't be that hard. One would of course need to collect a bunch of pictures of cars, people, etc, but (with some effort) they are available for download on the Internet. I also figured that it would not be ok to use my own camera stills for training...

Script to Detect Colour, Make and Model of Car and People from IP Camera (Updated July 2019)

I wrote earlier in this thread, that I was going to try Google's free Tensorflow/mobilenets algorithm that can be trained to detect people, cars, dogs, etc. I just want to report that I got it running well (python too). If I remember well, the processing time for one 1280 x 1920 frame was about...

    Google artificial intelligence

Hi guys, this has been touched upon in another thread but I start a new thread because I think that this issue has a future for BI. The BI motion sensor is as good as it gets with conventional methods but many of us get false alarms from tree shadows moving in the wind etc, etc. Google has...

Script to Detect Colour, Make and Model of Car and People from IP Camera (Updated July 2019)

Hi guys, this is really interesting. In my BI system, I get a lot of false alerts due to tree shadows moving, snow, etc etc. I have been dreaming of setting up some software that only gives alerts when the system sees people, cars and (maybe) animals. Google has released "tensorflow" and...

    Blue Iris UI3

This may be a dumb question to you smart guys. When I run UI3 (wonderful btw), it frequently says that an existing administrator session is open. It is easy to forget to log out, so I imagine that over time, there could be a lot of sessions open. Is there any smart way to manually kill all of...

    Blue Iris UI3

Yes, it's much better than the native app in Android, except of course that you do not get push messages. I have removed the native app from my Android units.

    Blue Iris UI3

This is an awesome piece of software, I love it! And the videos are so much smoother than when using the UI that came with Blue Iris. Works very well for me (b14 with Chrome 62.0.3202.94 on Windows 10 and 62.0.3202.84 on Android 5.1). Is there a Paypal account so we can show our gratitude? A...

    Network problem or overheating camera?

Super, will do! I keep getting impressed how these internet fora raise the collective wisdom! I have learned so much here. Is there a "network bible" handbook that you can recommend? I already have an introductory book but it doesn't give me enough.

    Network problem or overheating camera?

Thanks Kawboy. The camera is actually looking through a small screw hole and not the bird hole, so it's hard to swap it with another. I like your fan solution and will do as you propose. Can you suggest how to test the network with a laptop? Is it just a question of pinging and looking for...

    Network problem or overheating camera?

Inside the house it's like 23 deg C (73 deg F). In the nest box I do not know. But the sensor chip for sure gets hot when looking at the Sun, even when the Sun is low above horizon. Don't others have the problem that the Sun gets inside the camera field of view?

    Network problem or overheating camera?

I have a Chinese no-name 1080p cam with a CS pinhole lens looking at my house from a distance. To keep it discrete, I have hidden it in a birds nest box. The problem is that when the Sun is low by the end of the day, it enters into the field and it is difficult for me to change that. I have now...

"Don't buy cheap Chinese-made security cameras, because their security may just be terrible"

I believe that this i very true. I have a conventional system with 4 cheap Chinese IP cams and a Windows PC running BI. After the major virus attack all over the world a few months ago, I blocked the IP cams for outbound traffic in the router to make sure that they cannot access the internet...

Alternative internet connection over mobile network?

Thanks for the good input, guys! After studying the links, it occurs to me that you can get really inexpensive cellular modems in USB sticks and mount them in the BI PC. Obviously one needs to check that the cellular network provider uses public IP addresses. Is a DDNS service really that...

Could there be virus in cheap Chinese IP cams?

The router log regretfully doesn't show which port that was blocked. The P2P and the DDNS features are turned off in the cam software.

Alternative internet connection over mobile network?

This may be a stupid question and then easy to answer for some of you smart guys. I run a surveillance and home automation system in a vacation home but the internet is not always reliable, so I now and then lose connection to the vacation house LAN from outside. I usually connect via remote...

Could there be virus in cheap Chinese IP cams?

I have a conventional system with 4 cheap Chinese IP cams and a Windows PC running BI. After the major virus attack all over the world a few months ago, I became aware of the risk that the cheap Chinese cams may function as sleeping soldiers for virus attacks, so I blocked the IP cams for...

    Display IP number remotely?

I use BI for remote surveillance of a vacation house. There is not a guaranteed fixed IP address at the vacation house but the IP number changes very rarely (less than once per year), so I do not use a dynamic dns service. However, since the external IP number potentially can change, it would be...

    Blue Iris data base corrupt

    Self cleaning window for IP-cam?

I am working on a system that will be installed right at the ocean shore at a fairly rough place, so I figure that the camera windows will be covered by salt after some time. My colleagues have mentioned the possibility of using "self-cleaning" window glass, which is manufactured by Pilkington...

    IP cams in arctic regions??

Hi All, I have been asked to come up with a proposal for a system of ip-cameras to be placed at an arctic location well above the polar circle. The purpose is to study wild life, and we expect to install 5-6 iP-cams. At least for now, I have in mind to establish a solar power system combined...

Anything at all to be done about surges from lightning?

I have now received the surge suppressors that each cost $ 6.39 incl. shipping from China. The build quality is very good, no cheap plastic or anything like it. The diagram is shown in the sketch below. The differential voltage is clamped to max appr. 15 V using fast overvoltage suppressors...
