Connecting NVR in basement to TV upstairs.

I did the same thing. Also ran a USB extension cable at the same time. Wasn't sure about the wireless mouse range. It's great to view the cameras on a big screen TV.

    PIR sensor to trigger NVR

For those interested in my project, The Guardline PIR sensor has 12V and dry outputs. I ran a Cat 5 cable(since I have so much of this) and connected 2 conductors to the dry output and the other ends to the alarm input block on my NVR. When a car comes down the driveway the PIR receiver sounds a...

    PIR sensor to trigger NVR

The Guardline product met my needs and works well. I tweaked the mounting location and get rare false alerts. Excellent battery life

DS-2CD2335FWD-I or DS-2CD2385FWD-I for backgarden with no light?

I have both. The 2335 is by far the better camera for low/no light. Even during the day the extra pixels in the 2385 don't add much.

PTZ Recommendation - Dahua or Hikvision

Nelly's is a forum sponsor and great to deal with. I got a rebranded Hik 3MP PTZ from them for 700+. The 2MP is a bit cheaper. Excellent day and night image quality. It has smart tracking which works OK- not perfect. I don't think you will find what you're looking for at <500 price point.

Hikvision NVR video lagging and dropping

This is from the Hik 96xx manual|network configuration See if you can select load balance mode which shares the bandwidth across both NIC ports. If that is not an option pick multi-address mode and connect both to the network.

Hikvision NVR video lagging and dropping

Some of the higher end Hik NVRs have a link aggregation feature for the 2 ports which may be worth trying to see if that helps.

Hikvision DS-7608NI-I2 No resource on playback problem

I have a lot of different Hik cameras in my setup. The only ones that do thumbnail previews are <4MP. I'm still on 3.4.3 firmware and the higher versions didn't change this behavior (didn't update to 4.x.x yet). Probably a "feature" to reduce CPU load during playback, as it is with 32 cameras...

    Illegal Login on Hikvision NVR

Yes. I use OpenVPN app on an iPhone which makes the secure connection. Then I use the iVMS-4200 app set to local IP of NVR. Works great.

    Illegal Login on Hikvision NVR

That's what I thought. For a short time I had port 8000 forwarded and was getting occasional illegal login alerts. In all cases the logged IP was an assortment of private addresses. Same thing when I tested it from work.

    Illegal Login on Hikvision NVR

FWIW the Hik NVR's log the private, internal IP address of the potential hacker not the public IP (more stupidity). I verified this by connecting from work and deliberately entering wrong PW. If you have a device on your network with the .98 address check for compromise as mentioned above.

Swap out IP Camera on Hikvision NVR

If the cameras are still functional consider using a different IP address for the new ones. Makes it much easier to add them back later. Can't have enough cameras you know:)

    Problem accessing server with VPN

So while trying to troubleshoot this I unchecked 'Use secure session keys' and that fixed it with the IP's left as default.

    Problem accessing server with VPN

Just installed OpenVPN using a raspberry pi server. Very easy to install and set up. Works great to access Hikvision NVR using iPhone and iVMS. Having trouble connecting to the BI server by VPN. Worked fine before w port 81 forwarded. I can connect using a browser by VPN but not the BI iPhone...

Send motion alarm emails only when alarm input is on?

Does your NVR have an alarm input? If so you could connect the hardwired alarm output of the camera and alarm system in series connected to the alarm input on NVR

    BI and zwave hubs

The Homeseer system is VERY pricey compared to other options. Agree there are many options as long as there is some interoperability between the systems.

    BI and zwave hubs

The Vera looks promising. I have an older Interlogix alarm system and have scheduled an upgrade which adds cellular connection and zwave control capability through alarm.com with smartphone interfaces. Benefit is I can remotely arm/disarm and check status of all entry sensors. They are also...

    BI and zwave hubs

Has anybody successfully integrated BI with a zwave hub? There seem to be a couple products that advertise the capability but based on some initial research fall short in actual implementation. The Homeseer S6 was one I looked at.

    PIR sensor to trigger NVR

I ended up mounting it about 60ft from base station on a tree along my driveway. One miss so far when I came down the driveway pretty fast on my motorcycle. A couple of false positives I think from a family of turkeys running around. I am pleased with it so far, recognizing that it is not going...

I went with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HFZUKGM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Inexpensive and good range. Has powered and unpowered output terminals on the base station for remote triggering. Still getting occasional false positives but much better. May need to...

    NVR vs BI

I recently added BI to an existing setup with an NVR and 30 cameras. BI is much better at remote access and notification. You can also tweak the detection parameters better than with an NVR. I like the NVR better for archival storage and playback, as well as a single access point for managing...
