Glenn you are in the right place. I’d strongly suggest you read the Wiki here and follow that up with looking at the Dahua 2MP Starlights. 18 cameras: Monitor suggestions ?
Slowly putting things together for a planned 18 camera system, all Dahua 2MP for most part. I’m thinking 27” monitor would be a minimum. The only use this monitor will get is with dedicated BI system so I don’t need the latest and greatest. I did look into using a TV but in reading it appears... -

Welcome, you’re right on target with camera and Andy. Don’t hesitate for a second to support Andy. He shipped 4 cams to me last week from Hong King to FL in 36 hours delivered. Unreal service! Load of info here, read the Wiki and invest time before money. -

Hikvision vs Dahua
Market share driven by corporate advertising budgets and I’d dare say Hikvision has a larger budget. They did over $7 billion last year and Dahua did half of that Bigger is not always better. Ford vs Chevy debate. -

Dahua test cams via the Hong Kong Express
Ordered 5 Dahua cams for testing on our new house build. Andy AKA the Hong Kong Exoress shipped them Thursday afternoon at 1.30, I signed for them in today, Friday at 7:30 pm! Unreal Andy, you’re the man! Another 13 cameras to order as we progress. Thank you ! -

Read the Wiki then ask specifics. I’m in same boat, building a new house and will be using 18 Dahua 2MP Starlight cams. I’ve been a heavy Mac user for 30 years give or take and have a lot to learn.- ThomasPI

May grab a couple of the WiFi versions to play with while we wait on new house build. When we are done we will have quite a few hardwired cams. Not a WiFi fan but the planned network should easily support a couple of these. -

Agreed, we just closed on our construction loan yesterday. I’m also looking at 16 cameras with 3 of those on the inside. We’re running Cat 6 everywhere.- ThomasPI

Dahua recommendation
Agreed, don’t chase the MP and focus on capabilities. We are very close to starting a new house build, as much as I wanted to like the new 4MP cams they don’t fill our low light needs. Someday yes, just not yet. -
