    Drone swarms in the northeast?

The TACAMO Recapitalization Program (E-130J, formerly E-XX) will replace the aging E-6B Mercury and transition the nation’s airborne strategic NC3 capability between aircraft with no break in operational coverage. The E-6B has been in service for more than three decades and continues to meet...

Solar charged battery for Reolink RLC-510A Wireless Camera

It's unclear how much the actual draw may be. I guess I'll just set it up and monitor for voltage drop - then increase the capacity of the battery and/or panel(s) as indicated. Thanks.

Perhaps there are large tarriff's or other business-discouraging government behavior there that impact empiretech? (No business refuses to sell where they can make a reasonable profit, without maximum hassle.)

Wifi PTZ that doesn't connect through an app

I was thinking of using the ones that looney2ns recommended https://www.amazon.com/EAP115-Bridge-KIT-Wireless-Long-Range-Outdoor/dp/B0D84FS7QZ/

Wifi PTZ that doesn't connect through an app

Could three cameras be connected to the one wireless bridge (about 200' from the house) and have adequate throughput? (Let's postulate that I'm connecting two Reolink RLC-510WA - wireless but not strong enough, and one RLC-510A.)

What camera model(s) best for day & night sky viewing?

I'd like to mount cameras on a short tower next to the house to be used to view objects in space, as well as aircraft and larger birds. I'm guessing I'd need 3 cameras if I want 360 degree coverage. They need to manage the bright sun well and handle the challenges of the night sky. I'd want to...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Does the Ubiquiti system require a constant Internet connection to work or can it be set up and operated locally without any Internet connection?

Is ZoneMinder still being actively developed?

Thanks. I really should move this part of the thread to a new post. I'm not looking at ZoneMinder any more but, rather, a whole different method. EDIT: There is no "Other" category where I can move this, so, restated some here ... I have a use case where I need multiple qutebrowser windows...

Is ZoneMinder still being actively developed?

For Linux I just stumbled on this ... cortile GitHub - leukipp/cortile: Linux auto tiling manager with hot corner support for Openbox, Fluxbox, IceWM, Xfwm, KWin, Marco, Muffin, Mutter and other EWMH compliant window managers using the X11 window system. Therefore, this project provides dynamic...

Is ZoneMinder still being actively developed?

Ha, silly me, why didn't I think of an internal web page? That's great, thanks! (I have a variety of cameras, a Hikvision, some Reolinks, some Cobra's (from a cheap Harbor Freight system, and others.)

Is ZoneMinder still being actively developed?

I'm wondering about a script to load multiple instances of the low-resource qutebrowser on my large monitor - each one linked to a specific camera URL string. I'd also need a way to capture and send alerts to OpenHAB.

Lorex started taking pre orders for new 4K doorbell B862AJDB

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

It's all passing through separate POE switches to a non-poe managed switch and then to a Dell Optiplex 7060 SFF 3.0 GHz Core i5-8500 (it ramps up to 4.1GHz under load) 16GB RAM (will be upgraded to 64GB) 256GB SSD (will be supplemented with a 2TB NVMe and a 1TB HDD). Chipset is a Q370 and GPU is...

Getting cameras with the right MP to sensor size ratio

Key Takeaways from this thread for me ... wittaj "... do not buy a 4MP camera that is anything smaller than a 1/1.8" sensor. Do not buy a 2MP camera that is anything smaller than a 1/2.8" sensor. Do not buy a 4K (8MP) camera on anything smaller than a 1/1.2" sensor." "... if you record at...

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

This switch at $38. (8 ports, 120w, 100Mbps uplink) looks interesting https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0899NR75K/ I'd add a little noctua fan (efficient and really quiet) to vent the power supply heat.

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

Is the use of multiple smaller unmanaged POE+ switches (to shorten the power runs) - then the switches fed to a single managed non-POE SPF+ switch an OK plan?
  23. K

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

Cool. I'll start by only dealing with the non-wifi cams - wiring them directly to a switch - then to the computer with the software NVR (the current plan is Frigate & openHAB). I'll let openHAB manage remote access to the camera. Does that sound right? Should I prefer a managed POE switch...

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

We have 3 wifi routers - one master and two slaved - all the same model Asus. It sounds as though the best strategy is to avoid wifi cams?

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

With so little bandwidth required - why do I read about concerns for router bottlenecks? Is it because the camera streams are competing with data streams? Is a managed switch that uses QoS, or some other priority-management tool, a good solution?

    Required bandwidth is only 15Mbps?

When I look at switches the modern ones are all 1000 base-T/1g for each port. Am I correct (after reading a dozen discussions and pages) that a 5.0MP 2560x1920 continuous camera video feed at 30fps only requires 15Mbps (a tiny fraction of 1g)? Or, am I missing something?

Is there a Blue Iris equivalent for Linux?

OK, cool. I'm taking a hard look at Frigate on a dedicated pc. Unless something changes in my understanding of features and performance - I'll load and test that once the pc arrives. I sure appreciate the informed discussion here - it's the reason that my existing setup is working.

Is there a Blue Iris equivalent for Linux?

Interesting proposal. Airgap a computer with a MS version of windows and install Blue Iris. Only access it via VPN. How would you implement secure updates from Blue Iris, especially if they (some time in the future) require a newer MS version of windows?

Is there a Blue Iris equivalent for Linux?

A MS loaded PC with no updates from MS? OK, but then how do you patch newly discovered security holes?
