    Smart Codec.

I can take screen shots of the framerate configuration from my actual cameras, in case someone wants to see if I can improve it.

    Smart Codec.

@EMPIRETECANDY Why do I have different hard drive capacity readings, based on the software? When I use the Web Service, it says I've used 6.97 / 7.27. That's about 300 GB in 43 hours. I have 7 cameras set to 24/7, and the garage camera set to motion only. They are all set to 15 fps...

    Smart Codec.

Thanks. Right now, all I have is one camera with simple motion detection. The others are 24/7. Do you think I should enable smart codec?

What does this do? Does setting smart codec to "open" save space? Is there a reduction in image quality? How does smart codec work?

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

I guess I'll think about this next time. Right now, my TV stand doesn't have a cabinet, it's open. I like that because it makes it easy to access the cables in the back, for any devices. But, if I ever change furniture, I'll think about getting something with a cabinet for the NVR. I would...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

So would the setup be quieter if the NVR didn't have built-in POE, but was connected to an external POE switch? Are there any tips to make the NVR quieter? Can I put a towel over it or something?

Can someone post a screen shot or video of a bad low light camera?

So would the grass, and those tiny building things on the left, look better with the Dahua?

Can someone post a screen shot or video of a bad low light camera?

Great video. This is what I was looking for. The grass doesn't look very clear on the Hikivision. And the cat doesn't look very well defined. I can't make out even the outline of the cat very well. On the 5231, the body definition of the cat is clear, and I can see the blades of grass on...

Can someone post a screen shot or video of a bad low light camera?

Did anyone buy a bad low light camera (any brand), and have a screen shot or video? I just had the HDW5231R-ZE installed. I had read and seen videos of it. I just want to compare with something bad, in low light, so I can see the difference. Thanks.

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

I just got the NVR5416-16P-4KS2E NVR installed. It is loud. I haven't heard a device this loud since maybe a PC from 1999. I have it in the living room, and I can still hear it if I go to other rooms downstairs. Also, I have a desktop; plasma TV, Tivo DVR, APC battery backup, all in the...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

I connected to my camera streams today for the first time, remotely. It worked perfectly on my Android phone. When I wasn't connected to the VPN, I got "couldn't connect" when I tried through Gdmss Plus. After connecting to the VPN, I could pull up the streams.

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

Ok, I realized that the USB extender still only controls what happens on the NVR downstairs. It doesn't control what happens upstairs. It looks like there isn't a way for any of the USB ports to control what happens on HDMI 2. I think my outstanding question is still how can I get full system...

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

Ok, I've got it so it's "touring" on HDMI 2 to the upstairs TV. How can I get full system control on the upstairs TV from the mouse? I want access to all of the menus, just like I can on the downstairs TV. I have the bottom USB mouse port controlling my downstairs TV. I have the top USB...

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

So, my last remaining question in this thread. How do I get my upstairs TV to stop showing channel 1? How can I have full control, and go to various system menus? Why is it only showing channel 1? Based on the screen shot above, it should at least show channel 5.

Ok, I logged into my NVR through my web browser, then went to system, display, and changed HDMI 1 back to 1080p. Thank goodness.

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

I don't know what happened to @jmcu's post. But that screen shot helped. I can see the PSS playback section now. I figured how how to playback. Great! How do I reset the resolution on HDMI1 so it's 1080p? Or how do I get full mouse control on my TV upstairs through HDMI 2 so I can change...

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

HDMI1 is connected directly to the downstairs TV. That's the 1080p TV. I had set HDMI1 to a higher resolution than 1080p to see if something would change. HDMI2 is connected to a HDMI extender, which is going to the upstairs 4K TV. That's the one that always shows channel D1, no matter what...

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

What happens if I set HDMI to a resolution that my TV doesn't support? I changed HDMI1 to something higher than 1080p, just to see what would happen. I'm getting a blank screen now on the downstairs TV. I wanted to see if it would change what was showing on the upstairs TV.

    NVR5416-16P-4KS2E and Smart PSS help.

@EMPIRETECANDY I'm having some initial setup problems. 1) HDMI 1 is my downstairs TV. HDMI 2 is my upstairs TV. I am using a HDMI extender from HDMI 2 to my upstairs TV. I am also using a USB extender connected to one of the USB ports on the NVR. All I ever see on my upstairs TV is...

Looking for a camera security system.

Had the cameras and NVR installed today. Total power from the APC with the switch, router, modem, Tivo, Ooma, and NVR is 98 - 100 watts. That has an estimated runtime of 72 minutes. I'll post overall thoughts later on the system, and make a few thread specific questions.

Looking for a camera security system.

I plugged in the following into a Kill A Watt meter: * Speakers (two power cords) * PC power * Monitor * Light switch * Ooma VoIP I plan to move the speakers to the "surge only" ports of my APC battery backup, once I get a longer power cord, in a few days. With the PC and monitor off, the...
