    Rackmount computer recommendations

I have a 4U short depth server rack in my media closet so I'm going to be building my BI/Plex server with this case: 4U 19" Short 15.25" 8 Hot-Swappable SATA / SAS Drive Trays IPC-4U08S (PLinkUSA / RackBuy)

How will the USA ban on Dahua, Huawei, Hikvision and ZTE affect our ability to buy security cameras?

The most popular cameras on ipcamtalk seem to be the Dahua and Hikvisions. If these are banned then what are our alternatives? Will be still be able to buy them from back channels like Aliexpress? U.S. bans the sale and import of some tech from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE

Advice for Video Surveillance at subdivision entrance\exit

We have line of sight at the clubhouse and lake. But the entrances to the community are spread pretty far apart. We have a few hundred acres between the entrances with lots of trees, so line of sight is indeed an issue. If we could get power to each individual sight and have a static IP address...

    LPR cams for narrow road

It is a through street, but most folks aren't traversing it to get to another destination other than their home. It's more than a mile long and winds its way through our neighborhood. There entrances to the north and south. I'm only 5 houses away from the north entrance. I figure with the street...

Need suggestions for HOA security cams

That might have to be a possible solution. It would still be an expensive way to go though, since most lots are over 1 acre, and the power coming into the house from the street may be quite a ways from where the camera would be mounted. I suppose we could have our onsite maintenance guy rent a...

Need suggestions for HOA security cams

Yes, we have power at the clubhouse and lake, which has a gate. Our plan is to install a camera there since the gate has had issues with vandalism. I'm hoping we can use these for the cameras in the clubhouse area to connect with the server in the clubhouse...

Need suggestions for HOA security cams

Unfortunately no street lights. We are in a fairly rural area.

Advice for Video Surveillance at subdivision entrance\exit

This is an interesting thread. Our HOA is also exploring installing cameras. Problem is we don't have power at most of the 5 entrances. We would have to get PG&E to run power, which is probably doable but at a cost. Also there is not ethernet infrastructure at the entrances. Not sure how we...

Need suggestions for HOA security cams

Our HOA is not gated. We have 5 major points of entry. In the past the HOA board has considered installing security cameras, but the bids we got were well over $70k. The problem is power. There is no electricity at most of the entrances. I have explored using hunter's trail cameras with...

    LPR cams for narrow road

ANPR is overkill. But we live in a very security conscious neighborhood. I'm on the HOA board and we are investigating whether it would be worth it to add security cameras to our entrances. So I'm going to experiment with this ANPR camera and see how it goes.

    LPR cams for narrow road

I ordered the IPC-LPR237B-IR. I read through the 13 page thread but I'm still a bit confused. Does this cam only work with a NVR? Or can I actually use it and its associated functions with Blue Iris? And there was mention of an internal memory card. Should this memory card always be running or...

    LPR cams for narrow road

True, not much I can do about that given the road is completely pitch black at night, except for when our landscape lighting is on. I figure if we get a license plate, that's most of the battle. We've had the sheriffs request video after a break-in, and given how few cars go up and down our...

    LPR cams for narrow road

I also plan on installing a IR blast emitter. I ran 12 volt to the front of the property and I'm going to install a junction box so I can have multiple branches. I figure at least one IR blaster facing each direction along with the cameras.

    LPR cams for narrow road

I don't have other cameras providing overview capabilities. That's why I'm thinking of installing one. Is there a preferred model for this type of application?

    LPR cams for narrow road

I already have 16 cameras around the property. However because they're run with a NVR, I don't have alert zones and other features that I would like. Therefore I'm going to build a Blue Iris server and transfer those old 2 MP 1/2.8" cameras over to my BI server. But I also want some LPR cams in...

Tesla K80 inside a Dell R730 for BlueIris NVidia acceleration

I have no practical experience with this yet. But after doing a bunch of research it appears that once BI takes over the QSV of the Intel CPU, it's game over for anything else that might need the CPU, such as Plex. So my plan now is to build a server with an i7-12700 and a GTX 1660 or RTX 2060...

24 port switch, unmanaged for cameras only 300w / who has the best? budget 300.00

It's going into my media closet that's sound isolated with door seals and everything else that goes with sound isolation. Also, most times you can replace a noisy fan with something less noisy. I do this on my QSC PA amps that I use as subwoofer amps.

24 port switch, unmanaged for cameras only 300w / who has the best? budget 300.00

Electricity is always a major consideration, especially in California. I'm still on NEM1 for a few more years. And with a medical baseline, I get an extra 500 kWh under Tier 1. Our home uses about 1300-1600 kWh per month, and that's including charging a Tesla. We have about 4 kW of solar on...

24 port switch, unmanaged for cameras only 300w / who has the best? budget 300.00

Take a look at this Cisco 2960S 48 Port Gigabit 370W PoE+ Switch WS-C2960S-48LPS-L. The thing looks like a monster. I got it for less than $100. Cisco Catalyst 2960-S Series Switches Data Sheet

24 port switch, unmanaged for cameras only 300w / who has the best? budget 300.00

IMO a used Cisco PPPoE switch is a good buy. I bought a Cisco 2960S 48 Port Gigabit 370W PoE+ Switch for $97. This is a very robust commercial switch that's far more robust and durable than the cheap consumer grade ones.

Building a new Blue Iris Server

The Wiki is great! It has so much useful info. By the time I add a M2 drive and a larger HDD to the ebay system, it's about half the cost of a i5-12600K system with 32 GB DDR4 3600 RAM, 18 TB WD Purple drive, M2 Samsung SSD, and a rack mountable case. The new system would be much more powerful...

Building a new Blue Iris Server

Yes, I'm coming to the conclusion that have both BI and my Plex server on the same machine is going to get complicated. I'm not thrilled with the idea of setting up VMs and integrating that into a Linux server. I guess I should concentrate on a much more reasonably priced, low power usage BI...

Building a new Blue Iris Server

My existing system dated from 2015 is now starting to act wonky. The NVR is not recording and the app that comes with it for my iPhone is kind of wonky to use. I have 14, 2MP ip cams around the house and a NVR. I already have multiple 32 port PPPoE switches in my media room closet. I would...

12v extension cable for IR illuminator

I actually bought this transformer about 15 years ago when we were living in a different house. LED landscaping lighting was not a thing back then. Everything was halogen. So the watts really added up if you're planning on installing 50 landscape lights at 30 watts apiece. Now these same...

12v extension cable for IR illuminator

Yes, my transformer is a heavy duty VISTA multitap that puts out 12 to 15 volts depending on the terminal. It has a 1200 volt total capacity. I've run 12 gauge wire to the planned locations. The runs are about 100 - 150 ft long. I plan on measuring the voltage with my meter to make sure it's...

12v extension cable for IR illuminator

IMO you will have significant power loss at that length if you're using the same thin gauge wire as the unit came with. I'm running a lot of landscape lighting right now. It's all 12 volt. You can use this calculator or the chart to figure out the best gauge of wiring you'll need. I'm running...

Good/bad idea to mount a camera to a tree?

So it seems my options are to mount to: 1) big tree 2) 6x6 wood post 3) 2" or 3" electrical metal conduit 4) 3" light pole for a post lamp Which would be the most stable? The tree would be cheap because it only involves a band mount. The 6x6 is fairly inexpensive as well. It doesn't seem...

Good/bad idea to mount a camera to a tree?

Ahh....thanks! But is that rigid enough? Looks like Home Depot has it up to 3” diameter. How would that compare to a 6x6 pressure treated wooden post? It needs to hold at least 2 cameras.
