Best Practice for Profile Scheduling in BI - Looking for Opinions on Recording Logic

I am going through and making adjustments to my camera settings and can't decide which logic makes the most sense when it comes to switching Day Profile to Night Profile. Currently some of my more important cameras have two profiles. Active: Uses BI Motion and IVS ONVIF triggers. Records Cont...

Some cameras are just missing footage from the same window every day?

BI v5.7.7.14 I have 5 of my 30+ cameras that just decide to stop recording around 7am every morning, and then carry on like normal when the next hour segment hits. I was wanting to post a video of the sound of the mini-PTZ R2D2ing. I had planned to use one of my driveway cams that is 30' away...

Why are TV Cameras still HUGE and expensive?

I stumbled across this video and thought it to be interesting. I didn't understand all of it, but it gave me a better understanding about cameras in general. They also show the difference in 8.4mm and 900mm focal lengths. I wish they would have said how far away the subject was though.

    Prime95 and Mersenne Primes?

I just watched a Veritasium video on Youtube about Prime and Perfect Numbers and have decided to download and run Prime95. Is anyone else doing this? Much of the information on their forum is severely outdated (20+ years) and I had some questions about the work/testing options...

Help with troubleshooting artifacts? on my 4K-T180s

I made some updates to my sky rig which involved turning the whole thing 90*. In doing so it changed the scenes and I am seeing artifacts I didn't see before, possibly due to lighting. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot if it's a setting issue or a hardware issue? I am seeing this with three...

Chrome Remote Desktop immediately drops connection, can't seem to figure it out

I have no clue where to post this, so it's going here. Presuming my Remote Desktop has been working normally up to this point, it is now only letting me log in for around 10 seconds and then dropping connection. It doesn't matter if I go BI PC to Office PC or Office PC to BI PC. Here are the...

Exposure: Range or Fixed? Which is better?

Which exposure method is better to use? A range or a fixed value? I have seen a lot of comments in regards to exposure where the response was a fixed number and I am questioning whether I should adjust mine or not. Most, if not all, of my cameras are running around 3.33ms and 20-25 gain during...

What to do with this pile of Lorex MPX cameras?

I am in the process of purging crap to get my basement tidied up and have this pile of 8 bullet and 4 turret cameras that I keep moving around. They’re from my Lorex MPX system that I no longer use since switching to IP cams. 8x LBV2711S-C 4x LEV2712S-C As far as I know they all still work...

Ubiquiti P2P setup for passing standard LAN and IPC LAN?

I have a friend who had some items stolen from his truck and has realized that his cameras were not up to snuff. He has since purchased two of Andy's varifocals and we are in the process of getting them setup. He has a couple out buildings that he would like to eventually put cameras on, but...

    I put together a sky/roof rig with (4) 180* Color4K cams...

I decided I wanted to see ALL of the things... After some posts on here about weather and watching the sky, and wishing I would have had my own, better footage when a meteorite came down a few months ago..., I figured I would put together my own sky cam rig. And, because I can't just do things...

    Lightning strike on neighbor's house.

We just had a storm roll through and my neighbor's house got hit by lightning. Unfortunately this is the only view I have of it, but it's still not bad. I wish I would have had my sky cams up, but now I am worried they will be a target for lightning. The dilemma... Camera: IPC-E35IR-AS (5MP...

Which covers have you noticed are able to defeat your LPR?

Other than the 3M plates, I have noticed that there are some plates that my camera has a hard time picking up. What have you all found/noticed in your LPR captures that prevents your camera from getting a good OCR? I am also seeing more and more Flock systems in my area and am curious how well...

    I caught me a Looky-loo

From what I can tell I caught my first lawn looky-loo this morning. I am one of the few in my neighborhood who keeps the sidewalk edged and takes care of their lawn through the summer. This guy seems to be either appreciative or surprised.

Varifocal vs Fixed focal length comparison.

I know there are a couple other threads on this, but I wanted to make my contribution. It is always highly suggested for new installs to first get a varifocal and then use it to determine the focal length you need for a given field of view. I had replaced one of my varifocals with a fixed...

MP/s of my system and are there any concerns with adding?

I saw MP/s mentioned the other day so I decided to look into the Wiki to calculate my system. I am running 32gb of DDR4 ram with an i7-10700K using Quick Sync (benchmark is shown as 18,998). I think I have a memory leak and need to update the driver, but memory is typically 42-50% and CPU is...

Network connection to BI PC is lost after power outage. Restored with a reboot?

My BI PC and camera POE switches are plugged into a UPS backup so that they continue to run and don't go down if the power dips/goes out and don't need to be turned back on when the power does come back. However, the issue I am having is when the power goes out and comes back on I lose all...

Stranger Danger: Side-by-side captures of Ring/Arlo/Nest vs Better Cameras

This post is a combination of the Typical Ring/Arlo/Nest Captures thread and the Captures from Better Cameras thread. It's not too often we have side-by-side images of the crappy, consumer grade cameras with the same subject as better cameras that have been installed with a purpose. It...

Video of how my spotter cam's IVS rules call my PTZ to auto-track.

With more people looking to get a PTZ and asking about it moving to a preset and auto-tracking I decided to put a video together. This shows how the PTZ goes from parked to a preset based on an IVS trigger from a spotter camera. From this preset the PTZ has its own IVS rules to tell it to...

IVS/AI: How to get it to ignore an object?

More SD4A425DB-HNY captures from the 1st floor. This thing is a beast.

I wanted to share some videos of my SD4A425DB-HNY after moving it from the 2nd story soffit down to the 1st floor soffit. So far, I am far from disappointed. I know it does not have a lot of distance to work with to determine human and then track, but it seems to be figuring it out...

"I want 2.8mm cameras everywhere to see everything..." - This is why you need specific FOVs with purposeful focal lengths.

I have gained a lot of knowledge since I signed up and wanted to share my experience and examples of improvements and changes for others who are coming from a "I want 2.8mm cameras everywhere to see everything" system mentality. My ongoing "build/looking for advice" thread can be found here...

Setting up PTZ and choosing Spotter cams...

This might be a little all over the place, so bear with me. I have a SD4A425DB-HNY PTZ that I am trying to make more useful. Camera motion triggering motion within BI

I have started putting SD cards in my cameras and setting them to record motion, but I have noticed this is triggering BI to record. I assume it is registering this as an ONVIF trigger? Is there a way to disable to trigger for motion but keep the triggers for IVS rules?
