NVR or DVR with slow Internet

Is there a reason for or against bullet cams vs turrets? The turrets look like they may be less expensive? Most of my locations will be on poles or posts without any protection from rain/wind. I know with my Arlos, the lenses get wet and the images distorted at times.

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

Yes, the guidelines you posted arevery helpful. In that long driveway shot, I think I'm going to be ok with just DETECT AND OBSERVE out to the far distance and to IDENTIFY as a target comes closer down the driveway. If I go with a 4mp turret or bullet vari-focus, how far out will motion or IR...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I'll definitely keep that in mind. How would you typiocally get 12v power to them in remote locations? Where I would need them is farthest from the house. Good suggestion. Is there a reason for or against bullet cams vs turrets? The turrets look like they may be less expensive? Very...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I get pretty consistent downloads of ~35mb/s but uploads suck, anywhere between 0.5 and 3 mb/s depending on time of day. With the latency almost all webpages load with very long delays. I am running 3 Arlo Pro cameras right now and its can take anywhere from 10 seconds to never for video to...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I'm moving onto the next steps on choosing cameras. I think I'll take the recommendations here to buy 2 or 3 different ones that I know I'll need and test them in various locations before picking the rest. There is a lot of discussion about 4mp on 1/1.8" sensors and 2mp on 1/2.8" sensors. I'm...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I've started to consider camera location and how to get Cat 6 to each location, I know each camera needs a connection back to the BI PC thru a POE switch as shown here.... but can I add a second poe switch feeding back the first one for about 3-4 cameras? I have one spare Cat 6 line running...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

Much appreciated. Thats great info to go along with the info in the wiki pages. Looks like my budget on cameras is going up substantially but that's ok, I like the idea of my router hosting the VPN. I'm running an older Trednet TEW-818DRU with WIFI disabled since my WIFI is a couple of...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I've decided to go the Blue Iris/PC route with POE cameras. I have an old desktop PC that pretty much meets the hardware requirements described in the Wiki page. I can easilly add the 2nd NIC and additional HDD space and RAM if needed then if it doesn't perform just find a refurb. I want...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

The more I start to understand these systems the more questions I have. Thanks for the education. So the stuff I’m reading on the Dahua site about using port forwarding for remote access with iDMSS is not secure and you guys recommend VPN? My concern with VPN is the additional load on my...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

Bear with me here…..I’m still getting up to speed. So how are camera connections made with iDMSS? When using iDMSS, can the NVR or PC running BI still be reached remotely over the internet?

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I really appreciate that detail wittaj. I wasn't able to find this kind of detail so far and its exactly what I was looking for. Didn't want to invest high $$s then find out it wasn't going to do what wanted. I'll read thru those links later and seriously consider the Dahua NVRs. As for...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I still don’t have a good understanding about my options for monitoring live and if possible, recorded video from an NVR while on-site and WITHOUT upload or download from the internet. I know the live feeds and recording are available on a lan connected network pc thru the NVR interface but not...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

Tigerwillow1, that’s the kind of info I’m looking for. I’m running multiple indoor/outdoor Ubiquiti Wi-Fi APs so my LAN is pretty fast. It’s my satellite internet with 800ms latency that’s the problem. I still don’t quite understand if I’d be able to view video locally from my phone. How...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I think my post wasn’t very clear and I dont fully understand how these systems work yet. I am running my own home network off a DHCP router including both wired connections and multiple Wi-Fi access points. I’d like to connect the NVR to this network and be able to access the NVR and cameras...

NVR or DVR with slow Internet

I appreciate the fast reply. I thought local Wi-Fi access should be built into the NVR and that the only need for internet would be when I was away from the system and needed alerts and camera access. Can you recommend some 8 and 16 channel NVRs that have this local Wi-Fi access capability. I...

I’m trying to pick a system to install and can’t find enough info. Hoping to get some good advice here. I’m on 25MB satellite internet service which is the best I can get right now. I need to run a camera system that doesn’t require the video to go out and back in on the internet when I’m at...
