    Meltdown and Spectre

Interesting, So the security of firmware on a device such as IP cams are not affected by these exploits. So no firmware patches to fix possible security holes.. I'm surprised a bit, what with all the myriad of holes that have popped up in the Ip cam world, that they are unaffected..

wasn't saying to build a firmware, but to hack one.

    Meltdown and Spectre

yeah my understanding of the exploit is limited.. but something along the lines of, if a PC visits a malicious website, a carefully crafted I-frame piece of data sent back to the device said device will dump contents of kernel memory to said attacker.. revealing passwords, encryption keys god...

    Meltdown and Spectre

Hi, With the recent revelations of these exploits, do they affect Ip cams? and if so can it be used to hack the firmware in some way? Looking forward to your responses! Thanks!

What do you think about this one?.. option B http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/cdQYG5zI Just pulled the trigger on that, looks like these cams are very thin on the ground.. Cheers!

I said (around).. I don't know really? I haven't a sample range of a hundred dollar cams big enough to know which is the best, bang for buck. The Hikvision does well but it has it's limitations at night. Clearly they're not all the same. I hope asking for opinions wasn't unreasonable.. Like I...

What would be good here is a leader board style chart of cams with examples of night (@15m) and day from a 100 to a 1000 bucks.. I bet I'd find my cam easily enough then..

Agreed. It's a pity, but it's form factor was an issue also. @ Jack B Nimble I hear you, but it's like Hi-fi equipment and law of diminishing returns. Somewhere out there, there's a sweet cam that can give me the fidelity I need for my hard earned sweaty 100-200 bucks.. I'm willing to open...

The cam in the videos is ds-2df8223i-ael and is anywhere between 900-1600 dollars.. from a quick search.. Maybe my expectations are to high.. Good tho!

I don't know dude, it's impressive low light. But check this vid of a 4 series Hikvision. @ 3.36 the chap in white waving his arm.. where's his arm? This is what I'm talking about, he's standing still in white t-shirt, but when he waves his arm it becomes invisible? WTF? Bright coloured...

Well, Unfortunately I can't get the Huisun/ Imporx because it's not discrete enough. Need something in the dome variety similar to the Hikvision. And the Longse is out because it's not motorised. Jack B, I've done every combination possible. FYI, I'm talking about passers by at a distance of...

Perfect! Thanks a million for that, been looking at the specs of both and they seem pretty decent on paper. Only other thing I was thinking was compatibility with my Hikvision for future NVR integration. No biggie tho! Cheers!

Fair enough, the most important thing is the night vision (no motion blur). So if you had to choose between them, which would it be?

Ok so, You think the Longse S500 is better but more expensive? Any model?

Ok great! But Imporx v2 is the same camera as the Huisun v2, just different brand name right?

Cool, Thanks! I'll have a look at that. @pozzello Yeah a hundred of any currency of your choice (Fiat). I spent a long time playing with the settings and have it pretty much as good as I can make it right now. It's ok, but there's a severe loss of detail when there's movement at night. I...

For around the 100 mark.. :) I have a Hikvision 2cd3335-I and people become practically invisible as they walk by at night, too much motion blur also. So I'm looking to replace it with something better if I can. Thanks!

So that's it then until there's a new Hiktool or I get the firmware that's on the camera?

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

Yeah I see the mismatch in that number. I opened 5.3.3_150610 and ‘magic number’ is ‘0x484B5753’ Just out of curiosity, it shows it's ML what is the command to change language? tried pressing '2' but say not such command? it's ok got it!

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

Ok, I understand that now. So maybe there's a new TFTP update tool? I tried 5.3.3_150610 too, but no change. Seems like ARP is the only thing it understands.. I can save changes to enable or disable DHCP but that's it about it.

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

Yes, all looks normal. I tried everything else with the working cam and it checks out, like I said, the only thing different now after that unsuccessful firmware update, is that, it has some how managed to change what firmware it's reporting, and what DSP it's reporting.. So like you've been...

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

I see it's trying to get an ipv6 address, now I've pretty much disabled ipv6 everywhere, but I'm wondering if I gave it one, would the web sever be accessible then? or does that not have anything to do with it?

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

Yeah but only when I use the -Pn option in nmap. I think what's happening is, it's opening ports 68 and 5353 to get an address on the network but then closes them again.

    Hikvision TFTP server tool.

Well, I tried the 5.3.1_150424 and 5.3.5_150925 and they didn't change much, except in SADP, it now reports the firmware is 5.3.5_150925, but still no access to web server. All it did when I tried 5.3.5_150925 was it went into a loop of - Resend required - So perhaps this is where the region...

One thing I wanted to ask also was, say I put the Chinese firmware on, does that change the language in IVMS4200? Or will it not work in that after?
