    Text alert port number

Thanks! It was the latter...sms/text. I've made a firewall exception on port 465, so that is exactly what I needed.

    Text alert port number

What port do text alerts need open? I had everything outgoing blocked but that killed all my alerts. I'd like to keep my BI server as locked down as possible but still get text alerts. Thanks

    Should I upgrade firmware?

Thanks. I'm not concerned with security as they'll be on a completely locked down vlan with no access to anything except my blue iris server. I may just leave them like they are since the video looks fine and any setting I would change is accessible already.

    Should I upgrade firmware?

I just won 3 hikvision ds-2332 cameras on eBay. They are used and I am almost certain US version. They have the UL sticker and are all metal frame with English info sticker. They currently have firmware version 5.3.0. since I can't guarantee they're us version, I'm hesitant to try and upgrade...

    Ebay China Cameras

Does he have some in the $60 - 80 range? I've looked at AliExpress but didn't see much under $100. The cameras I'm looking at on eBay are some of the 2 mp fixed turrets.

    Ebay China Cameras

For all you folks who have purchased the eBay, non-upgradeable firmware versions of the Dahua cameras, do you all just leave them as is, or is there some way to flash something else to them? Some sellers seem to have very good reviews selling these Chinese versions with non-upgradeable...

Best warranty on cameras through retailers? Alliexpress? Amazon? Ebay?

I'm curious about this too. Crazy to think how hard it is to find a good quality camera here in the US. Anything else there are a million options, but cameras, gotta go through AliExpress and get em from China.

    Anyone used GW Security cameras?

Thanks. Im upgrading from Hosafe/dlink crap, so not gonna take much to improve. I'd like to get a decent hikvision or dahua but seems like everything I see is grey market stuff. Most confusing things to purchase.

    Anyone used GW Security cameras?

I'm upgrading my cameras and ran across this company called GW Security on Amazon. All of their all-in-one packages have all 5* reviews and their camera specs look very good. The individual camera's also have pretty good reviews. I'm wondering how they compare to Hikvision. Link to camera...

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

Looks like all of the flat stuff is 30 awg. Guess I'll send it back to amazon and get some regular stuff.

    I guess that answers it.

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

The short cable I tested with is a flat one also. I guess the next step is trying a 50 ft standard cable and see if that works. If not, then that leaves voltage drop. If so, then a bum cable.

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

I assume it is. Not exactly sure. This is what im using. Flat cat6. http://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-jadaol%C2%AE-Network-internet-Connectors-50/dp/B00WD017GQ?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

After some testing, heres what I found. Ethernet port on switch showed no sign of life with 12v and 16v power supplies. I pulled the camera down and brought everything inside. With a 5 ft ethernet between the injector/splitter using the stock 5v power supply, the thing powers up. Go figure...

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

I'm going to pull the camera down and take it to my switch to do any further troubleshooting. Should eliminate the cable length question. Before pulling it down im going to put a 12v power supply on it and see if that helps. According to an online voltage drop calculator, getting 5v across 50ft...

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

Believe me, I get the junk they are, but at this point I'm invested in what I have. I know better now with future cameras, but may as well try and get these others doing something. I originally only got the DLINK to catch a neighbors dog peeing in my garage, but as with all my hobbies, it...

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

Seeing how I already own this camera, I don't really save money buying a new one. Just seeing if anyone else has experience powering a 5v camera with these passive injector/splitters.

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

I understand that. I ran my foscam this way(which is 5v also) and used a 48v input with 5 volt regulator on the camera end. This dlink is a spare I was trying to get working on the cheap. I thought these injector/splitters would work for that, but not sure now. Worst case scenario I totally...

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

I will try that when I get home...not sure if it matters, but I'm using a flat cat6 so I can hide it in my soffit easily. I didn't think about it being the ethernet because it doesn't appear to even be interacting with the switch correctly.

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

I have a switch dedicated to my cameras. The port on the switch doesn't light up when the ethernet is plugged in like it does with the other cameras.

5v Passive POE not working...can't figure it out.

Hi all, I have searched near and far and can't understand where my issue is. Here's what I'm trying to do: Power a 5v DLINK DCS-930L via passive POE. I am using a simple passive splitter at both ends. Cable type is 50ft Cat6. Here's the issue, power is not even reaching the switch directly off...
