    Optimizing client CPU utilization

Thanks. I'm actually surprised that VLC can't use the GPU for decoding, especially since it's a standard h264 stream (right?).

    Optimizing client CPU utilization

Thanks. I'll try to drop the frame rate. What about the I Frame setting? Should that equal the frame rate? And what about variable bitrate? Any reason to experiment with that?

    Optimizing client CPU utilization

Hello! I'm using the highly recommended Hikvision 2432, which I'm very happy with. I've set it up as a baby monitor and it's working great so far. The only caveat is I've noticed viewing the live video feed can be quite expensive in terms of CPU usage. Running VLC on my macbook it's using...

    My Hikvision success story

Hey Guys, Wanted to personally thank everyone here on the forum who have recommended the Hikvision 2432. I am using it as a baby monitor and extremely satisfied with it after having tried several other products. Read all about my experience here.

    Nanny cam

Ok guys, sounds like I just need to order another 2432 then :) I'm already very happy with the one that I own, I just figured maybe for a bigger room I need something with PTZ.

    Nanny cam

Hello Hikvision fans/experts! I'm looking for a recommendation for a network camera to be used as a nanny cam. It needs to cover our living room and needs to have a microphone (preferably a good one). Also needs to have an option for local storage for recording since I don't want to have to set...

Set up simple recording with 2432

Hi, I inserted an SD card into my Hikvision 2432 and would just like to set up very simple recording - say, for example, I'd like to always have the last 60 minutes. What's the easiest way to set this up? Thanks!

    Intermittent frames dropping

Interesting how nobody makes a Power Line adapter that combines POE. Would seem ideal for an IP Cam use case.

    Intermittent frames dropping

Any experience with PowerLine adapters? Would those give me a more stable connection?

    Intermittent frames dropping

Thanks. Unrelated question - if I want to record to a microSD, what is the average size per second of recording? I'm trying to get a hunch of how long a recording would fit in a 16GB SD card.

    Intermittent frames dropping

Would you say it's the camera, client (iphone) or possibly both? Any tips on mitigating the issue other than wiring it up? I really wish these IP cams came with 5ghz...

    Intermittent frames dropping

Hi, I've set up the Hikvision 2432 which I'm overall very happy with. Occasionally though, I notice that some frames are dropping. That is, if I have the date/time showing up on the image, it will jump a few seconds forward (e.g. from :03 to :06). That happens when I access the main stream via...

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Thanks Dave. Using IE and installing that plugin fixed it for me. I was just thinking that it would be really cool if the Hikvision app (or any other IP cam app) would allow remotely controlling the IR. Then let's say it's dark in the room and I need to look at the baby, I can simply turn it for...

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

I have a completely unrelated question, should probably start a new post but I'll ask anyway :) On the Display Settings page, there is no "Save" button. I'm trying to change the Day/Night sensitivity but it keeps resetting to 4 because I cannot save the setting. See screenshot.

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Well, I don't want to toy with aftermarket lenses. So sounds like my best bet for this Hikvision camera is to get the 6mm lens. I want to be able to see the baby breathing, moving, etc. Nothing else that happens in the room is of any interest to me :)

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Ok so help me out here guys :) An average crib is 54" in length. That's all I need to see, nothing more. So assuming I'd like to put it as further away as possible from the crib (because of the IR), I should probably go with 6mm lens right? IR is up to 10m according to Hik, so I could easily...

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

With the 2.8 lens, do I have to place it closer to the baby if I want to get more detail, or is there a zoom option? I don't care for any of the surroundings :)

Why is the yellow light blinking anyway? Network activity? Is that by design?

    lol That'll do I guess :)

Thanks! Is there any way to disable the status lights (blue and yellow) on the front?

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Thanks guys. I got the 2432 :) Any recommendations for the microphone settings? It's not quite as sensitive as I'd like it to be. I want to be able to hear the baby without placing it directly over the crib.

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Thanks!! If it's no different than the IR on consumer baby monitors use then I'll assume it's fairly safe :) Any tips on where to purchase this from? Also, if it only comes with 4mm, would that work as well or should I insist on the 2.8?

DS-2CD2432F-IW best lens for baby monitor

Hi, I'd like to purchase this camera for use as a baby monitor. Which lens should I get, the 2.8mm or 4mm? Also, somebody pointed out there's a risk with IR for baby's vision? Is the IR on this camera stronger or more dangerous than those that ship with any other video baby monitor? Thanks in...
