I connected it to a 12v power supply (as was suggested) and a short network cable. I think it is now reseting it self every few minute or so because it is doing the calibration dance where it moves from side to side up ect. every few minutes and in the live view all I see is a black screen...

hmm strange, seemed fine at first when I connected it to external power supply, and now its then it restarted itself every few minutes. When i can log on the picture appears completely black. Is there a hardware reset button?

I tried connecting it directly to the POE switch with a 1 meter patch cable and it seems to be working worse. half the time I cant pass the login screen it says network anomaly when I do it shows a black screen where the video should be
