So then why is that setting even there if it "auto" adjusts itself anyway?

    Lost and confused

The only time you do NOT have to have port 1194 opened/forwarded is if the OpenVPN server resides on your internet facing router. If you are using the (2nd router) VPN server behind your primary modem/router/gateway, then you will definitely have to have port 1194 forwarded on the primary router...

Well then, perhaps you can tell me what the "FPS" I have indicated by the red arrows refers to in this image? I always thought FPS stood for "frames per second"....

YES..... Exactly that ^^ Getting the cameras set to 15 fps was paramount to making the whole thing run smoothly. Even with my new system, running cams at 30fps does nothing to improve image quality, but does deliver a significant hit to the system resources.

    BI Network Configuration

That is all correct, but the problem is (as I understand it) that if your home network is on 192.168.1.x and you go to a place with public wifi and they are also using 192.168.1.x and you try to connect your VPN on your laptop (not your phone which never uses 192.168.1.x), you will then be on...

    BI Network Configuration

Thanks StevenP, Sorry for the confusion. I am in the midst of trying to make my entire home network more secure/robust/accessible through OpenVPN. I would like to change the entire LAN to a non common IP config like 192.168.60.x to ensure or at least make it a lot less likely that I will be...

Any chance you can expand on this process? I would love to know more abut how to do this the right way.

    BI-OpenVPN questions

Yeah that is standard OP for OpenVPN as far as I can tell. The 1194 (or whatever) port definitely needs to be open on the gateway to allow OpenVPN traffic through.

    BI-OpenVPN questions

OpenVPN is integral to the Linksys AC1900ACS as well and I am using a version of DD-WRT on it. It is actually integral on the stock firmware of the router, but I like the security and extended features of DD-WRT so that is what I am running, however, the Linksys is NOT my primary router. It is...

    BI-OpenVPN questions

That is exactly what I did...port 1194 on udp only. My router has a choice between udp, tcp or both. Mine is set to 1194 on udp only.

    BI-OpenVPN questions

I solved the 8081 port forwarding issue. I am no longer forwarding that port. Can you please share your wisdom on how to get OpenVPN working without port forwarding? I have read the VPN primer for dummies that loony2ns linked below several times now, but am stuck on that issue. Whenever I...

    BI-OpenVPN questions

That would be the same thing as just using the static LAN ip for the WAN ip section in BI no? I am probably being overly paranoid here, because for all intents and purposes, my whole WAN router is invisible to the internet according to shields up, but if I can exclusively use the VPN for all...

    BI-OpenVPN questions

My internet facing router is stealth according to ShieldsUp which I have used for over a decade now. The only ports that are forwarded, is 8081 so that the BI webserver can access the web, and a port for VPN. I am using OpenVPN server on a DD-WRT (flashed) router. ALL cameras are blocked from...

    BI-OpenVPN questions

So I have OpenVPN set up on a router and have that all squared away with no issues connecting from outside my LAN. I can navigate my main LAN while connected through OpenVPN. As a test, I removed the WAN address from the Android app on my phone, opened the VPN onnection on my phone and then...

New migration PC, need help with folders "new" and "storage"

What I will say is that this PC came without an OS, so I installed from an image on USB using regular processes. When the install completed, I did not have to activate windows. The activation key's last 3 characters were OEM when I checked, but I thought nothing of it. I just changed the...

New migration PC, need help with folders "new" and "storage"

Ok the last hour of my life is gone and I will never get it back....ugh That was a nightmare. Turns out I must have had something wrong in the hardware id section of the policy I set up to block updating the GPU driver, because the (windoze) update seemed to go fine, even though I did it via...

New migration PC, need help with folders "new" and "storage"

Just looked at that link and I won't be surprised if the 4664 driver does not support the new feature. If all that section does in task manager is allow me to see how well the GPU is performing, I can live without it, as there still does not seem to be an answer to the memory leak problem with...

New migration PC, need help with folders "new" and "storage"

Wow.... The memory leak issues are REAL. I was able to download the complete driver installation disc from Lenovo for my computer, hoping that it just might have the miraculous display driver in it, which it did not. BUT, it was older than the driver Windows installed so I thought I would give...

Well that didn't work out too well for me. When I rolled the driver back, it reverted to 10.0.16299.15 (dated 20016). Any chance you have the 4463 driver?

Thank you so much for the tips Walrus, I stumbled across a thread or two describing the video driver issues prior to buying this new (used) system for BI but can't seem to find the one where the 4463 driver was referenced. As I recall, it was no longer available for download anywhere, and any...

New migration PC, need help with folders "new" and "storage"

Turns out this was a pretty seamless swap. I am just going to live with the folders showing that do not actually exist on this system until a way to get rid of them pops up. The entire system is up and running in it's new home, currently showing 14% CPU and 34% of 8 gigs of memory usage with 9...

I think you are right sir... I just triple clicked the folder and changed the name of "Shop" to "New" and now the folder structure looks right.... How to get rid of the rest of those folder references in the Folder window is something I would like to accomplish. I am doing all of this on the...

So I just got me new PC up and running, successfully imported the .reg file and every one of my cameras came up on the new system! I was very impressed and pleased with those results. I have your BiUpdateHelper installed brother. It is a thing of beauty.. I uploaded my config yesterday, so you can see what the stats are from that system. That was my intention Dave. Thank you sir. My only hesitation is the angst of not knowing whether or not my exported .reg files will take or will I be doomed to setting everything back up from scratch. I have seen others post that they were only able to get one cam back up and running after...

Thanks for the replies man. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Lenovo ThinkStation P310 i7-6700, with 8gb and a 1TB hdd for $262.00 on ebay. I just bought a 240gb SDD (Kingston-$30.00) for it and will add a 2TB Purple once I get it up and running on the new SDD and successfully migrate my...

Thanks Fenderman... As I mentioned, my plan is to go to PoE cams, all of them at 1080P. I currently have 8 cameras, and might add 2 more, for a total of 10 (2MP) cams. I do not see the need to go to 4MP cams based on the maximum distance of monitored space. Everything I watch, is pretty close...
