I find the IOS app for this camera hardly usable. Too bad, I like the hardware.

For unconditioned space you may want to look at an industrial POE switch.

    HA System Recommendations?

How many router z-wave nodes besides the smartstick? BTW, I don't think the tamper sensor report is designed to automatically reset to off/null.

    HA System Recommendations?

Is the connection being made with version 5 z-wave devices? I set up a system with a detached garage perhaps 50 feet from the house and it worked without problem. This is on an all z-wave 5 system. But there are probably multiple paths between the house and garage. I have never looked at the...

    HA System Recommendations?

I find Homeseer integration with Blue Iris to be reliable and straightforward. But for someone with no programing background usefully integrating Blue Iris into any HA hub is going to be challenging.

    Networked (non-integrated) motion sensor?

The simplest outdoor PIR is probably the zooz brand connected to a z-wave enabled hub. I use homeseer with the blue iris plugin, which does not require an internet connection. I in addition to PIR I have pressure mats connected to the terminals of z-wave door and window sensors. Pressure mats...

POE ONVIF compatible doorbell with WiFi/poe chimes

Grandstream comes the closest as it is POE, but the notification part part requires customization. Replacing the transformer is trivial.

Blue Iris Version 5 is right around the corner!

I'm no microsoft fan, but IMO it is fairer to say that you haven't paid for remote desktop when you purchased windows home. Most software is an incredible value considering the effort involved in making it. Including BI.

It also made the bird population happy. The best reason to not have outside cats is birds.

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

If you have a fence between properties putting a camera on a fence post looking in can work well. This setup works particularly well if the camera on the property edge is in the view of another camera.

Personally I would try the Grandstream first. It checks all the boxes, and its from a SIP company.

    Abode vs Ring security system.

People increasingly choose to self monitor. There are endless choices in systems. But if you want to use more advanced sensors you are going to need to buy a professional panel or use a home automation hub. All types of security sensors like glass break and advanced motion sensors can be...

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

I like nextdoor.com to find small local contractors. Who your neighbors use is usually the best source of information. I don't find Yelp and similar particularly worthwhile anymore.

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

United Security Products is the largest producer of pressure matts. These are placed under mats and rugs. They can be connected to a z-wave network with a dry contact capable z-wave device like the Ecolink door and window sensor (which is designed to be repurposed as a dry contract sensor)...

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

Your machine is pretty old. Your worst case is buying a modern i5/mboard/ram package for $~400 and use you case and power supply. That upgrade would break your window liscense, Afaik. So add another $100. Or you can buy and NVR and then learn out you really want a BI machine and then spend...

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

The BH price I see is $249, plus comparing specs its an updated model. I'm logged into bhphoto. Perhaps the $358 is a Dahua USA MAP price. The prices shown on google shopping for Dahua at bhphoto are considerably higher than the actual store price.

    Blocked services

The most common consumer router VPN user error is trying to connect from the local network. The system is designed so that doesn't work. Turn off wifi on the phone to test when on the local net.

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

You may be able to upgrade just the CPU if needed. But your old machine will do more than it seems now with a tuned license copy of BI. You said you have built PCs which tells me you will never be satisfied with an NVR.

Blue Iris Version 5 is right around the corner!

Any sign that H265 works? It is weird how poor H265 support is in the windows world. In Apple land H265 has worked great for years on identical intel hardware.

    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

Dahua Technology2MP Starlight Outdoor PTZ Network Mini Dome Camera with 2.7-11mm Lens Not a bullet, but the price is goof for what it is. I think it is unclear what sensors the 2mp Dahua USA cameras use at this point. It takes quite a bit of work to compare the bhphoto offering to...

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

The first time he visited your house during the day he wasn't wearing a mask. He was probably wearing a cap, and a hoodie if it wouldn't look out of place. He may have even been wearing a yellow vest. This is why a doorbell cam or other low cameras are needed to ID. A camera at 4-4.5" at the...

Help choosing cameras and system from a recent burglary victim

I think you need to spend some time considering why the thief was confident that you were not home. Cameras are a good idea, if for no other reason a then deterrence. But anyone capable of installing a blue iris system is capable of doing some home automation that will make a thief be unsure if...

    opinions on camera placements

I would think about a HDBW4231FN dual type device on the other side of the porch. The RCA doorbell cam may be your best choice for people at the door. A turret would be better for bugs, but you need two cameras plus a doorbell cam for ideal front coverage. If a longer focal length is needed a...

VPN Synology NAS vs. Asus RT-AC1900P

Comcast is simple as long as you buy your own comcast approved cable modem. In practice then you have an unchanging IP and a simple, always on ethernet connection that doesn't even require a login. If you decide to use their cable modem and turn wifi off they will periodically turn wifi back on...

Same price at BHphoto but with a U.S. warranty in a retail box. I got mine in two days. BHphoto is often under appreciated. They are usually an authorized dealer on many brands so there is a U.S. warranty. For example, they are the only authorized Ubiquiti dealer in New York. Same price on...

North American 5MP "Basic Starlight" vs 2MP Starlight

You could also consider the HFW4239TN "color only" for the front. I have the 2831 for daytime ID. In my neighborhood houses are robbed during the day by people who ring doorbells to see who is not home. I would like to do overlapping cameras, but don't want to be the weird guy with too many...
