You go into the Unifi Protect App, click the doorbell view and there is a screen there to type into if you want. The message is then displayed on the doorbell for 60 seconds.

I have their UDMP running Protect. I do not believe they allow Protect to be run on Docker, I think you are thinking of their old Unifi Video system (that is not compatible) with Protect or this camera. But you need a piece of hardware of theirs to run Protect.

I went with all the Unifi cameras because of the doorbell honestly. I wanted 1 app to see ALL of my cameras. Yes Protect is a App for iOS and Android (works great). I am now in that thread and will not derail this thread any longer.

Thanks to this thread and all the info I was able to get this Doorbell camera into HomeKit (via Homebridge) to see the video feed. I'll work on seeing if I can write a plugin to actually show motion and video alerts in HomeKit.
